    Good day ladys and gents
i'm new here, but looking on the net it seems that this is the only reliable place were to find informations on what to do on this old wagon

i've recently started the upgrading path, so far i've maxed the ram for the pm 45 chip to 8 GB
now i'd like to upgrade the GPU

    i've recently bought this m5960
    https://it.aliexpress.com/item/New-...2559486995.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.51.4fOsNS

red pcb and bios chip, reading a bit on the forum i've figured out that i need to flash the bios with an acer one

the problem is: i can't find any of it, does somebody have it?

and for teh drivers, i've found that amd is giving out just dell precision drivers, will they work on my machine too? (win 10 x64) or do i need specific acer drivers? and if so were do i find them?

eventually it will get a 1080 screen, a qx9300 and a intel6300 (on the subject, any idea on were to put the third ant?)
thanks for any help u could give me

    Hello.

Why you`ve bought M5950? If it is really with ROM chip on board, you`ll have it plug-n-play, without any additional modifications. Use drivers from 6770M. I doubt that drivers from M5950 will work. If you want to flash with 6770M bios, you can find it in last pages of 5739G thread. By the way - M5950 is made on the basis of 6770M.

About QX9300. Mostly, if 7738G comes with Q9000 installed as a factory default, than it`s ok to install QX9300. If not, there is a big chance, that 7738G has chipset of the first revision, which support Core 2 Quads, but the support is not activated. Thus, quads will not work. You should check you chipset revision. Don`t remember, which exactly is supporting quads, you should search in the internet.

    yeas i do have a 7738g 904gb50n with q9000

i bought the 5950 because it was the most cost effective upgrade from my gt130m (and i couldn't find a new rom 6770m )

thank you verymuch for the the infos, i was searching in to the the 7738g threads
i'll try it soon, i just have work to do for saturday, and i don't wan't to risk smiting my old acer right now XD

Currently most cost effective GPU upgrade for would be M4000 - still powerfull enough and notexpensive.

If you have Q9000, you can go with CPUs up to QX9300.

Right, and I had followed that path and upgraded my 7738G to m4000 ( dell ver. with bios chip on it ) just to find out this type of GPU somehow disables my built in sound chip. Quite frustrating once u get nice performance boost and loose your sound at the same time.
Just to warn anyone willing to use m4000 with 7738G as i haven't found solution so far :(

    well....
    tryed, and
it didn't work, got a weird machinegun like (tatatatata) sound before loading windows, wich i guess was some sort of bios warning, then when it tryed to load it... it bricked the main board...
got it fixed..but i'm back on the 130m
