Hi,
At the moment i have 2GB of RAM running on the Turion 64 Dual Processor with Windows Vista Business (in the Control Panel > System it says the OS is 32-bit).
I have heard that with a 32-bit OS you can't go above 2GB in laptops. Is that right? It seems a little too broad of an accusation.
Will it acknowledge the extra 2GB i put in it?
Thanks
Dave

You can use about 3.2 ish,but if you have a GPU with dedicated memory and such you might see less.
Technically you can put 4GB in, but it will only use up to the maximum the 32 bit OS can see. -
I had 4gigs in mine. It will recognize ~3.3gigs in your 5005. Made a huge difference. If you install 64-bit os you will get to use all 4!
BTW you can use your 32-bit key to install Vista Business 64-bit.
You can also upgrade the processor in the 5005, not really worth it though.
Make sure you use dual channel ram when upgrading your 5005. I used the OCZ brand and it worked great. -
32-bit OS means even if the BIOS acknowledges the RAM, OS will be only be able to utilize up to about 3.5 GB of it.
There are a number of threads floating around about this.
What is the chipset in your Ferrari 5005?

whoa...cheers for the quick replies.
I might consider just swapping one of the two existing 1GB chips with a 2GB one to give me 3 and go from there.

Upgrading to 64-bit will really help out your system, even if you don't install the 4 gigs. Best thing about it is it doesn't cost anything.

How do i upgrade for free?? I was thinking that meant that i would need to buy a 64-bit version...

You just need a Vista Business 64-bit install disk. Then you use your 32-bit key for the install and voila free 64-bit Vista. Basically your key is good for a 32-bit install AND a 64-bit install, just need to find a 64-bit disc.
Edit: There have been problems using a OEM key to do this but a Retail key will work 100%. -
Awesome, Thanks for your help everyone.
