    Hi,

My notebook, an Acer Aspire 4520 (Turion, Dual Core, 1.6Ghz) "tells me" in the BIOS screen that it has 2 memory sockets, and it's 2 sockets are already in use.

As it has 1Gb of RAM, I suppose that the system has two memory boards of 512mb each one.

That said, I think the only way to upgrade the system to 2Gb is to remove these 512Mb memory boards, and purchase 2 new ones, of 1Gb each. Am I right?

Does the system accepts two memory boards of different sizes? Let's say, maintain one 512Mb board and change just one board, from 512Mb, to 2Gb, making the system become a two and a half gigabyte memory?

The technical specs states that the system has "dual channel" memory support. What is this?

What is the technical aspects of memory boards the system will accept? Bus speed (mhz), DDR, etc.?

    Thank you in advance,

    Adriano!

DDR2 667 SODIMM. I use Kingston. 2Gb makes heaps of difference on my 4520. Yes you'll need to pull the 2 512mB and replace with 2 1 Gb (or 2 2Gb!).
Mine (so I assume yours) takes 256mB of system RAM for video (Acer call it turbo-cache). Dual channel means that if one has 2 identical RAM modules, it will be faster than 2 different types.

.....so some programs will report 256mB less than actual RAM as its used by turbo cahe
