I upgraded my RAM from 1GB to 4GB in order to run Vista smoother. Incidentally, I used Kingston's Apple branded memory as they were inexpensive and available.

The pdf manual that comes with the laptop did not explicitly state that both slots are in fact in the same compartment (approximately in the middle of the laptop's bottom). I was fearing that I would have to remove the keyboard to find the other slot, as some older Acer laptops have previously required (?). It was easy to upgrade the RAM per the instructions in the manual.

Booting up Vista shows 3GB of memory as that is the maximum for 32-bit Windows for user processes (1GB is reserved for the kernel). I did not want to buy 1GB and 2GB modules as I would then be running in asymmetric dual channel mode which is slower than symmetric dual channel mode with 2GB and 2GB and with future OS considerations in mind.

    you did good!!

you must not have installed SP1 yet. It will allow you to see all 4GB of ram, but you can still only utilize ~3.2GB. If you ever go to Vista 64Bit, you can utilize it all and more..........
