I own a 1830T-6661 (i3 380UM) and its warranty is ending shortly.
Has anyone tried upgrading the CPU of their 1830T yet?
I know that this laptop came in a i7-680UM variety. I also would like to know if other three Arrandale Ultra Low Power i7 processors (620UM, 640UM or 660UM) or the Arrandale Low Power i7 processors (620LM, 640LM or 660LM) would work just as well.
It's a $300 purchase to upgrade a $500 laptop so I thought I should ask.![]()

Ultraportables, particularly those using LV/ULV CPUs tend to have soldered CPUs. Unless you've got BGA IR equipment to unmount/reball/mount the CPUs it's a no go. Still it's too expensive to do imho.
If Dell Outlet get any more 12.5" E6220 in stock for ~$500 (after 25% off coupon), then I'd suggest grab that. You'd have a faster, better built machine with more expansion options. See Dell Outlet Winter Savings Event | Dell -
Ah, so that is what BGA means... I've just looked it up. Thank you, nando4!
