So, I'm curious: how are folks preparing to upgrade their Acer Timeline to Windows 7? Are you assembling the drivers on Acer's website, or are you content to rely, at least initially, on Windows 7 drivers? For folks who will be upgrading to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, what are you doing about the fact that there seem to be very few drivers and applications currently on Acer's support website?

I keep telling myself that Acer is going to release something, anything, in the next few days giving customers at least some guidance and help on how to get their Timelines fully compatible with Windows 7, but those are probably pipe dreams. So... as folks upgrade to Windows 7 over the coming weeks, it might be helpful to post experiences--good and, in particular, bad--for the benefit of the community.

The only really major issue I can see is the lack of the ePower management app on Windows 7. Without that, the purpose of having longer battery life on an Acer Timeline is nulled. If your fine with 5hrs something(as reported by some) in Win7, then I don't see the problem upgrading to Win7. Drivers are already available. Just be wary of older apps, those are the ones who will be a toss up if it will work with Win7 or not. Most newer software works without problems. I run Win7 on 2 of my laptops, no problems so far. But my timeline is still on Vista. If ever you decide to install Win7, I would suggest you do a clean install, less headaches that way. Cheers.

Since Timelines are being released with W7 64bit from 22 Oct I imagine all the software and drivers will be available from that date. Would be nice to have an equivalent energency back-up facility as provided for Vista.

Is there any useful Acer-specific software which is normally pre-installed on the Vista versions I can download which works in Win 7 64 bit?

I'd like to be able to have the on-screen wifi/bluetooth/eco indicators back plus there was a useful app to update the BIOS.

Not sure off the top of my head. One way to check, if you're so inclined, would be to install Windows 7 RC and try out some of the Vista drivers currently available on Acer's website. My guess is that some of them are bound to work, and could be a good temporary solution.

I believe the program you want is "LaunchManager" under the applications tab.

I have a problem with Launch Manager on x64 Win7. The problem is that i'm unable to switch between wifi and 3G wireless card (Option's GlobeTrotter in my case) using Launch Manager's menu. Currently I've unistalled Launcher to be able to switch and it works, however Its less flexible and I'm missing all the other features of Launcher. Anybody have the similar issue?

Another known Win7 problem in that on ATI4330-enabled "TG" timelines power consumption is high AFTER resuming from standby or hibernate. This reported to be a problem on Vista also. The solution is to switch video from intel to ati and then back to intel - rigt after resuming.
