Okay, here is my problem:
I go into the camera via the Camera Assistant and click "Acer Orbicam". All the camera does is do the connect and disconnect sound for a USB device. That duh-dunk and duh-duh sound it makes when you connect or disconnect something, you know?
I've tried installing new drivers using the Acer 5600, 5610, and the 5670 (found an old thread that had the camera being unable to be found and using 5670 software was supposed to be the solution). Unfortunately, NONE of that has worked. I need the camera for Skype. A few months ago, it was sporadic that I had this problem. Now it's guaranteed that it doesn't work. I haven't a single clue what to do.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Please, help me get my webcam working. I'm at my whit's end with this machine.

Just called Acer support in America (I'm living in Europe at the moment) and they said all I can do is send the bleedin thing in. I think I may just say to hell with that and wait until next weekend when I can get a Logitech notebook camera sitting at my girlfriend's house and install it on this thing.
Sorry to post a thread and then only find out that I can shell out much-needed cash to repair the thing. Sucks, because I use this laptop (it's not even mine, it's my girlfriend's) to talk to my parents back in the States.
From reading about other stories of the 5601's OrbiCam not working ... should I ever have to buy a laptop, I don't think it will be an Acer. I found too many situations of people having to send their machines in multiple times. So to Acer: Jog on ... you just lost a future customer.
PCs > Notebooks ... just more proof that when you build it yourself, it will always work better than a retail machine -
what software is the cam using ?
if its bisonbar, go into msconfig and stop it from running at start-up.
mine is also seen as a usb device and wouldn't work and showed as being used by another programme.
now its ok works fine but as soon as i have it running at start-up it all goes pear shaped -
I use the default Acer OrbiCam software??? How would I change it from running at start up? I've never messed with msconfig before.
It's seen as a USB device, but it doesn't show as being used in Acer Orbicam software. It says it's not even connected or whatever. At least, if I understand the graphic. All of the **** is in German and my German is a bit rusty.
But if you can tell me how to do the MSconfig thing, I'll do that. -
Okay, I figured out how to use Msconfig.
Went in there and turned off anything running from the Acer Orbicam software folder and no luck on the restart. Guess I'll just try getting that Logitech camera to work ... -
run msconfig put you computer back normal start up mode
then just go and remove all acer orbcam drivers and logitech one you isntall on built in xp shound work
