Sounds like you are trying to get around a password. That discussion is a violation of forum rules, and I will close this thread if it moves in that direction.

Any USB keyboard should work immediately, it doesn't require you to install any drivers or anything, so I do not know why you are having issues.

If you just need to get to your data, I suggest you pull the hard drive and put it into an enclosure. You can then plug that into another PC to get your data.

haha I think you have interpreted this post totally wrong. he's saying that when he plugs in a usb keyboard and boots windows, he can't login because the keyboard isn't recognized so his typing does nothing and he can't help install the driver because he can't get past the login screen.
dude have you tried safe mode? or uh.. that's all I can think of right now.. or maybe try going into the bios and looking for "legacy usb" settings or usb keyboard settings and fiddling with them to see if they make the keyboard work

If I had interpreted it incorrectly I would have deemed this guy a total spammer and closed the thread. We do get a lot of spam posts asking about password-bypassing though :(.

But yeah, lets keep moving here.

That is REALLY strange that the keyboard would not just work. Is it one of those high end keyboards with all the fancy buttons, or a $5 piece of junk. For problems like these, the $5 junkers are actually better.

It should not be too hard. On the bottom of the notebook there will be several screws that are marked with an icon that resembles a keyboard. Get them out, and the keyboard should just lift right up.

Be careful though, as there is a ribbon cable that attached the keyboard to the motherboard. You'll have to gently open the connector on the motherboard by lifting it up a little bit. If you have small fingers that will work, otherwise just get a pair of tweezers.

Remove old keyboard, get the new keyboard's ribbon cable in that connector. Make sure you place it in there the same way the old cable was, otherwise you'll have issues and it won't work. Lightly press down on the connector after putting the cable in, and the connector will latch on to the cable.

Put keyboard back in its rightful place, and put those screws back in. Should be good as new then.

It isn't that difficult, but only if you know what you are looking for. And if it feels like you are pushing or pulling too hard, that means you are. Just be careful.

all done, the keyboard change was easy :) took 3 mins, two little clips to push up on the top of the keyboard, was careful with the cable, and yes everything works again :)
    thanks for your help

For the future I believe that here is a Windows key combination that brings up the virtual keyboard, I forget what it is and I've stripped accessibilty stuff fomr this computer so I can't find it.
