Does anyone have any experience with using their laptop without the battery. I am primarily using the notebook at home and not mobile very much. Would there be any harm in not using the battery?

no there would be no problem it's just a battery it's not a vital part of the laptop, well unless you like to use it without the power adapter.

The only problem will occur if you suddenly lose power you'll lose whatever your working on. A battery would be a safety net in this situation.

i dont really bring my laptop around either.. so its always plugged into a ups and i remove the battery. from what i understand this will prolong the life of the battery because you cycle through the battery life a lot less and you dont keep it at 100 charge either which would be the case if i left it in while the laptop was running of ac

Here is something a lot of people do not really understand:

A laptop has a built in UPS. Namely the battery. There is absolutely no point in owning a lappie and then removing the battery. Just does not make sense.

It is far cheaper and more cost effective to buy a brilliant, powerful desktop if you are planning (or use) a UPS to supply a lappies off line power.

And yes, you can preserve or lengthen the lifespan of a lappies battery by removing it and freezing it at 40% charge.

What's the point though

    Cheers,
    Theo

I don't remove my battery anymore although 99.99% of the time it is plugged into the outlet. One thing I did notice is that the laptop stayed much cooler by having that big space that the battery occupies left empty.

It will leave your laptop cooler.

    Theoretically, it could. (Spelling).

If your lappie is continiously powered from the mains though.....the charging circuitry of the lappie has zero work to do. Therefore, it should make no difference to the heat generation of the lappie?

It's all about a little more airflow underneath a lappie.

Battery out and more air places for air to enter.

    Think about it

    Theo
