    Hi all,

This is a great site, found some good information so far on the Acer series of notebooks but have a query for all the gurus out there.

I've just bought an Acer Travelmate (4235WLMi - 2.0Ghz, 1Gb, 160Gb, GF7300) and installed Vista onto it, which is very nice by the way (I'm a TechNet and MSDN subscriber). I have most things working, and the nVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 is working a treat after the .ini file tweaks I found on this site. Using the Vista drivers was ridiculous as the display would pause every few seconds! Fixed now though :)

There are a few things that don't work as they should, and I'm wondering if anyone knows, or can point me in the right direction to get the following things working:

+ Acer Orbicam (tried the Logitech one too, and doesn't work - wants me to plug in the USB camera)
    + SD / Multicard reader
+ Touchpad (working with Vista drivers, but would like to use the nav key etc.)
+ Programmable shortcut keys above the keyboard

I've tried drivers for the other notebook models (4230, 4200, even the 5000 series), all to no avail. Is there an .ini file hack similar to getting the nVIDIA drivers to work, or even better, drivers that are Vista ready?

    Thanks,

    Paul...

    Hi there,

    I have RTM Vista.

I managed to get the touchpad drivers, but each time I boot I get a "Do you want to allow program abc123xyz.exe (made up name) to run" and de-selecting the "Always show this alert" dialog box does not have any effect. Other than that the touchpad drivers work fine.

Acer OrbiCam: still no drivers for Vista that work
    SD Card reader: same same
BlueTooth: No driver works for this either
    Keyboard shortcut keys: same same

All in all though, I'm willing to wait for Acer to pull their fingers out (what else can I do!?)

Thought I'd give you guys an update...

    Hey guys,

I have an 8204 with Vista RTM.

I loaded the touchpad drivers from synaptics which work fine.
I have the bluetooth working fine on here. It was initially detected as an acer generic device but forcing the hardware as a Cambridge Silicon Generic bluetooth radio seemed to work fine. I have been using a bluetooth mouse without any problems.
The orbicam was detected by Vista but did not work with some apps like yahoo. I loaded the latest qc1050 software from logitech and it seems to work fine with everything now. You can get it from logitech website. http://www.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/quickcam/qc1050enu.exe
I did not have any problems with the card reader on the 8204. It was not detected until i actually inserted and sd card to read then it found the drivers and seems to work fine.
I am not sure if all the hardware is the same on the 4230 but I bet the webcam, bluetooth module, and card reader are.

I have recently purchased the ACER Aspire 5635 laptop and have installed Vista Ultimate.

Obtaining drivers has been a pain. But the below is what I did to get most things working. It was for my 5635 laptop, but could also work with yours.

Audio by Realtek: Vista Driver R1.53
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs

Touchpad by Synaptics: Windows Vista 32-bit edition v9.1.0
    http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm
I am having the same problems as you when system starts up, but no biggie.

Bluetooth by Broadcom: WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software
    http://www.broadcom.com/products/bluetooth_update.php

    Card Reader by Cardbus: Cardbus_v5.1.2600.2010_n_CardRdr_v1.7.4.0.zip
    ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3690_5610_5630_5650_5680/driver/xp/

Orbicam: Logitech Camera Driver 9.4.4.1084a and Logitech Image Studio
    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5620_5670.html
    http://www.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/quickcam/is730enu.exe
To get the camera working, as inidcated in another thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=71035&page=3)
You will need to do a search and replace all on the lv321.inf file (in CCD.zip) in notepad to get Image Studio to work.
    Edit, Replace
    Find what: 0892
    Replace with: 0896

Modem Drivers: Windows Update (haven't tested as yet)

I haven't found a way to get the multimedia keys working on the laptop yet, but I am in no hurray and I will wait for Acer to release them in time

Guys i see ppl havin problems with webcam drivers on 5672, just use vista update that will install webcam drivers for u, then use Logitech Image Studio simple as that no need to change anything in lv321.inf and about multimedia keys just install launch manager with win xp sp2 compatibility!!!

I had the same results on the 8204 orbicam haani. Vista did detect the orbicam and install drivers after running windows update. The cam did work with some apps but was not working with Yahoo. I have been testing the latest logitech quickcam software that is now vista compatible. The only device not detected by vista on my 8204 was the bluetooth module. I had to force the generic bluetooth radio drivers but it works fine after that.

    Hi,

The page that helped me out was at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11928&st=0

I had to change an .ini file; the link to it was in the thread above (page 2 or 3) and it worked as reported.

    Regards,

    Paul...
