Has anyone been able to figure out how the Vista Upgrade works ?
I can't see where I was provided with a serialized upgrade coupon and Acer isn't listed under manufacturers without them.
I submitted a request to Acer Support for clarification/instructions several days ago but no response as yet.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
thanks

According to the Upgrade Center, Acer will appear in the choices soon.
They said to keep checking back. -

Do all Acer owners get that upgrade for free?
-
I think that you have to have purchased your laptop after October 26 to be eligible.

I've been checking the upgrade site regularly and have not seen the Acer manufacturer either. I even emailed the upgrade folks and haven't heard back. I've also had problems with the Acer registration site but that's another thread...

as of today acer is listed as one of the oem's. so you can all start submitting your request for you updates
-
Hi mydnite can you please advise what web site/country you are checking from?
I'm in Canada and they are still not shown as a OEM for here. -
I clicked the vista upgrade link on Acer website and when I got to the next step, I still don't see Acer listed? How to do I apply for the upgrade?
-
I think the proper upgrade procedure is to:
1) Eject CD tray
2) Reach back with two fingers to pinch and remove your wallet.
3) Hold wallet over open CD tray, turn upside down and shake vigorously.
4) Close CD drawer and wait for Acer to contact you.
Gee, how easy can electronic upgrades get? -
ya i Have already done my upgrade request. did mine from the acer canada website to the link provided there.
Thank you for submitting your order to upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Please send in the original or a certified copy of your proof of purchase (Receipt, Invoice etc.) and redemption form to our service center in your region:
Your order can not be fulfilled until your proof of purchase and redemption form have been received and validated. After validating your order will be completed and we will process your order for shipping. You should receive your order between 4 or 6 weeks after January. At any time you can go to the site to check the status of your order.
So don't know but works thru there web link for me. -
by the way the cost for us canadians is $21.99 don't know about what it'll be for everyone else
-
That's the same route I'm following and Acer is listed for the Office upgrade but not the Vista one -

Okay, so, I bought my lappy from a dealer (common stop laughing, you know what kind!), does anyone know if the Vista upgrade still applies for me if I give them my proof of purchase, etc? (I'll just get a copy of the receipt and such).
Also, I went to one of the Acer websites (I don't remember which one) to see if my lappy could handle Vista and ... it's not listed! I have an Aspire 5040 and the list skips it (it goes 5030, 5050 ...)! Now, it came with the "Vista Ready" sticker so I don't forsee a problem, but because I got my lappy from a dealer is it possible that it isn't a North American "native" and that in order to save on personal costs he simply ordered and gave me a lappy that would be normally sold in a different part of the world? And would I find my "compatibility" web-site on the proper coresponding world site? Wow ... that was a mouthful! -
Information I recieved about the upgrade. Note, the web site will not let you upgrade, unless you have " a serialized Upgrade Redemption Form". I am trying to find out why I didn't get one, and what to do next.

Acer-specific information on upgrading to Microsoft Windows Vista is available at: http://global.acer.com/support/winvista/index.htm . -
I was in touch with Acer Support last week and they advised final details were being worked out and that Acer should appear on the list of vendors by Monday, December4th.
They are not there yet but hopefully any day now.
I have asked support for an update but no response as yet. -
Received the following update from Acer Support this morning on the Vista upgrade situation:
-
Its lousy on parts of Acer and Microsoft both. Acer is shouting on rooftop for their current PC/Notebook lineup being Vista premium ready/Vista capable and they are not listed in actual redemption webpage. Microsoft lists Acer however on this page, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/expressupgrade.mspx but nothing more than that.

If your laptop did not come with a serialized redemption card.
Then you need to select NO on the page and hit the Vista Upgrade button.
It will take you to an instructions page. At the bottom of that page is another button. Hit it and it will take you to the company selection page.
Select Acer and follow the instructions.
Vista Media Center upgrade cost me about $16.
You will then receive a confirmation number and an address in an email.
Mail your receipt and confirmation number to the proper and address and wait until January (probably late January).
*I spoke to the customer service center and they told me the confirmation is to be used instead of the redemption form listed on the email.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.
