I'm not sure where else I can post this, so I'll post it here. Basically, I wanted to praise Acer for a really good thing they did for me.
I had a Gateway NV53s52u. Earlier, I had posted a question about wanting to paint it. I never did because I had the horrible Black Tie Protection, which would void if I did paint it.
Anyways, one day, I had the laptop sitting on the couch. It seemed perfectly secure, but then when I sat down, it fell off. I was surprised to see how much damage it had sustained from such a short fall. The chassis was broken and every time I opened or closed it, I would something click and another piece would fall off.
I talked to Best Buy, and they wouldn't help me out. So, then I decided to do it myself. Unfortunately, the parts that I needed all totaled up to almost $300. I would have been better off just buying a new one, even though that was basically still new.
Then, I hatched up a plan. I saw that the Acer Aspire 5552 used the same motherboard as my Gateway. I bought a broken AA5552 from ebay for 50 bucks. The plan was to transfer my parts into the broken Acer (which had a faulty motherboard, no hd drive, and no ram). When I opened the Acer, I found that while the layout of the motherboards were the same, the two had just enough differences that mine would not fit into the case. So, then I was stuck with two broken laptops.
Something told me to call Acer and see what they could do. After going through the basics (turn it on and off, power drain, check charger, etc), they told me to send it in for repair. I rushed to put the Acer back together, put in my hard drive and ram, and sent it off to the Acer repair center.
I was worried they would charge me for the repair. I mean, it would really obvious that I had tampered with the notebook. Thing were back together, but the layout was still missing. There was also the fact that I had forgotten to switch out my processor. So, instead of the factory provided Athlon II, there was a Turion II.
After a week later, I got my laptop back in the mail, in seemingly brand new condition. Acer had not only fixed the laptop, but they extended my warranty by another year.
The only problem I have is they replaced my 500gb hard drive with the 250gb hd that the Acer comes with.![]()
I suppose that's alright. I'll just buy another one for about 50 bucks. Beats buying a brand new computer. Besides, the old hard drive was starting to get slow anyways.
tl;dr: Thank you to Acer for fixing up my laptop, even though they had every reason in the world not to.![]()

Wow- that's one hell of a customer service.
I know they have improved this part over lat few years but that's much more that I would have expected. -

I was hesitant to touch Acer for the longest time. I ended up getting an Acer LED projector because it was on sale (the Acer K11). I was surprised by the excellent build quality, and it's performed flawlessly for months now and I've used the hell out of it.
My mom just last month had bought an Acer netbook and asked me to look at it and back it up, etc. The screen quality was far better than my Lenovo T410, and the build quality was also excellent.
These two experiences with Acer have left a very positive impression on me, and I'd be less hesitant to consider them for future purchases. -
Service at the Acer Templeton Texas depot is really first rate.
