I have an Aspire 5105 running a clean install of Xp & the Laptop which show videos ok, but the external flatscreen monitor connected to it does not. I know the monitor is Ok as it works on a different PC & everything else displays Ok. I have tried videos & hthe BBC Weater neither of which work on the monitor. Do I need a seperate driver for the external monitor.

    What is your videocard?

Normally the videocard must be configured to use external monitor, no additional drivers needed. Have you tried FN+F5/F6 ?

F6 forces video output to go thru the VGA connector.... (and turns off the backlight on the LCD) ((look really close and you can still see the SCREEN DATA on the LCD,, it's just not lit up

    F5
allows you to PICK which of the CONNECTED video display devices you wish to use! (i think that's how it works)

F6 works fine & turns of the main screen, F5 does nothing (seens to be a common problem)
Neither of these affects not being able to see videos on the external screen, everything else works fine on the external screen, exept for videos
