Hey does anyone know if all programs are compatible with 64 bit operating system?

Firefox doesnt work.. so downloaded Minefield and it works now but im scared the freezing will come back with the programs i normally use
    i run:
    Sony Vegas Pro 8
    Adobe After Effects/Photoshop
    AVG 8 Pro
    Microsoft Office 2007

MSN messenger does not work properly... does anyone know which version i should download?

also, the windows programs like windows media player that came with the computer should be updated to 64bit correct?

From what I read a lot of 32 bit software works on 64 bit just fine.
Also trouble seems to happen when your 64 bit software tries to interface with 32 bit. Supose there's not enough bits !

Also your hang problems could have been caused by incompatable software.
I know the versions of nero I have will not work with the software that comes
installed on an acer 5315. Also ATI USB 650 tuners software is also
incompatable with the acer software. To get either to work I had to uninstall
all the cyberlink, acer arcade and NTI software. Also had to uninstall all
    the acer backup stuff too.

    office 2007 works fine
i use adobe photoshop, illistrator, indesign (creative suite 3) AKA CS3 works fine
Nero etc... works fine (hangs a bit on x64 OS doesnt on x86 OS
MSN Messenger Live - Works fine am using it now
WMP11 works fine on 64 as long you get the x64 version :)
Use kaspersky 2008 on mine, works fine. not tried AVG on x64.

Other than that go for it, XP64 bit is pants! works but is pants compared to the vista x64.

only driver issues i came across ie bluetooth is very finicky doesnt always work esp toshiba chips which i found is the most common under the cheapie makes.

also printers! had problems with certain printers and scanners on x64,

OOO man, I hope I don't get too many problems from choosing x64 over 32-bit!

Also, will 2GB of RAM be able to run Vista x64 well?

The only real problem I've encountered with Vista x64 is that the Remote Access Connection Manager service isn't able to start, which means no VPN. Microsoft haven't sent word that they're working on the issue either.

Otherwise, I'm using all the other regular apps and games w/o any problem.

Vista requires 3GB of RAM as far as I know (or is it the 64 bits versions only?), but I'm no tech either. But 2GB seems a bit low to me.

my cheap acer came w/ 1 gig of RAM and vista basic....

i know people running VISTA w/ 1 gig or ram on a celeron M 420...
    (slow as crap i'd imagine)

that's why i upgraded to XP then added RAM and a C2D CPU

I've been using Vista 64 for some time now and have been able to use everything I've installed so far, including Firefox. Which, BTW, I'm not quite sure why it's not working for you, as there are many others using it in the 64bit environment just fine. Perhaps something went wrong during your installation? Heres a brief list of programs I'm running on Vista 64:

    Adobe Photoshop CS3
    Adobe Audition 3.0
    Firefox
    Safari
    Acronis True Image Home 11
    NOD32
    Avira Anti Virus Personal
    PerfectDisk 2008
    TrueCrypt
    KMPlayer
    Cyberllink PowerDVD 8
    Digsby
    Yahoo Messenger Beta 9
    Frostwire
    uTorrent
    Picasa 2
    Photomatix 3
    Nero 8
    COD4
    Crysis
    WIC
..and the list goes on. As far as I know, everything except for Safari is running in 32 bit mode, including Crysis and I have absolutely no problems whatsoever. Were there any errors with your initial installation?
