Is it possible to re-install just the Vista OS without loading all of the Acer junk on the restore that Acer uses on their hard drive. I would like to be able to do a clean install with just Windows Vista.

    Acer 5100-3357

If you got a Vista CD and Vista CD-Key, then it's a simple format and install.

Otherwise, you'll be installing all the Acer crap again (just like when you got it from the store)

Unfortunately Acer only gives you a backup on hidden portion of the hard drive. The next laptop will be with separate OS CD included.

Yeah so you would have to buy a separate OS cd, otherwise you would just restore your computer to it's factory settings with all the crap.

Find a vista dvd, grab another one with all the drivers you'll need for the install (you'll find them on acer's site, for your laptop). Then format, install, and use your Vista key for activation, that's all. Be sure to use only the drivers and not the apps (crap...) found on acer's site. :)

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. Would uninstalling the programs accomplish the same thing? You can use either the add/remove programs in control panel or the uninstall feature of Windows Defender.

I suppose that once you uninstalled them you could do a search and completely delete them from the hard drive.

Where exactly on the acer site are the drivers found? I've been looking and it seems that they don't even have my model number listed. (9410Z)

Also, i was told by acer that this vista key will not work if i used a straight vista DVD with my key. I'm assuming this is wrong..
