My "open Box" aspire 8920 (Vista) wont startup.. but the Acer Arcade Deluxe will (without starting Windows)
When I exit Acer Arcade Deluxe, the screen shows a logo like XP but says only "Microsoft Windows Hibernating"
My Vista Logo has a round background where XP does not!
    .......advice appreciated

Grab your recovery discs and repair your Windows installation.

If I'm not mistaken, Acer's Arcade program is like Dell's Media Direct environment where it uses an embedded version of Windows XP to run-That's why you never see the XP UI while in Acer Arcade, only (if anything) the XP logo.

In any case, you should probably follow Lithus' advice and reinstall Windows Vista.

Recovery-cds.com sells a "boot Disk" that will allow me to retrieve all data etc before reinstalling Vista to original install.......could this be TRUE?

Adk66, your Vista installation is still there, it's just that Acer Arcade Instant-On (which runs on a separate partition using Windows XP Embedded) is booting instead of it. Do you have your HOLD button active on your CineDash? I don't know why, but that does make an impact.

The next time you get booted into it, DON'T use the Exit button, as that will simply send it to hibernate. Instead, just press and hold the power button; that will force it to shut down.

Then, try rebooting normally. With any luck, you'll be in Vista!

And don't bother with a "boot disk" that you have to purchase. Look up Knoppix on the internet - it's a Linux DVD that will allow you to access your files and get them off your hard drive before you restore!
