Nice to know that the 5672 has no problems running Vista. About why the power management tools are not working on Vista, no surprises here. I highly doubt Acer intended the software to run on the new OS.

I tried installing Vista, it runs fine except for wireless. Battery-life management isn't bad for a beta. IMO, the native one is good enough

has anyone been able to get the acer e-powermangment to work??

it would be usefull to activate/deactivate devices right from a program instead of going through device manager.

Amol, you said that it runs fine except for the wireless. Does that mean that the wireless doesn't work at all on the 5672 or just that it doesn't work perfectly yet? I'm considering putting vista on mine.

It didn't work at all for me, and I'm clueless as to what's going wrong. :( It detects the network fine, and it only says "Local Only" instead of "Local and Internet". Wired connection was an alternative, but I ran out of patience pretty quick. If you don't mind, could you install it on yours (I recommend a different partition for install and backing up your original boot.ini) and post about your experience? Be "warned", Vista Beta 2 requires a bit of getting used to. But it looks utterly pleasing.

P.S.: There are other Vista users (including 5672 users, if I'm not mistaken) who said wireless works fine for them. Some used XP drivers, but I'm not sure as to how that works.

    I am running build 5472.

Wireless works fine with me with the default Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 drivers. It connects to my WPA2 network at home without issue.

I did have to disable and reenable the device to get the thing to scan any networks though. A reboot may have sufficed as well. Since then, it has worked fine.

The only two devices that needed manually installed drivers were the memory technology driver (for the card reader) and the audio driver. I do have a little bit of skipping on audio from the Vista drivers that is not present in Windows XP, so I may try the XP drivers. (I think they changed the audio driver interface.)

The camera drivers are available on Windows Update and the Bluetooth device must be changed to use the Broadcom Blutonium drivers manually in Device Manager.

I've only rebooted once since reinstalling, and that was because the ATI drivers I was trying to install caused a crash. (They haven't been updated since the 5384 Beta 2 release, so they may not have been tested/work at all with build 5472. Still, with all of the ATI related issues, next time I'm getting an Intel GMA or nVidia GeForce Go.)

Interesting... I may try Vista a bit later on. Right now, XP is more than enough for moi. Thanks for the report, k3l0.

The ATI drivers can be manually installed via the device manager. The Microsoft drivers have issues detecting devices.

I used ATi's vista drivers anyways. Display wasn't a problem at all.

AMOL: In order to get the internet working under Vista on your 5672, simply disable IPV6. Let me know if you cannot figure it out, and I will post instructions.

    Hello everybody,

This is my first post, as I just received my Acer 5672 x1600 yesterday. I was quite pleased that the OS Recovery option popped up on me right away as I was hoping to create a system restore disk and move immediately to Vista.

This is the second system I've installed Vista on. My other laptop (emachine w/ AMD 3000+) has had builds 5384, 5456 and 5472 with all devices working flawlessly. I went straight to Vista 5472 on my new Acer. Being how new the Acer is, I'm quite pleased with how most everything is working including wireless.

I am however having problems with the audio drivers and with the opticam. I can't get either to work. Fortunately I found this thread and it seems others have gotten these to work. What specifically did you do? I've tried the logitech drivers for the opticam without luck, and I found these audio drivers for vista beta 2, but they are not installing correctly and when manually specifying them I get an error stating incorrect plaform.

For folks considering an Acer 5672: So far the heat issue seems overblown. I've used this system all day for work yesterday and today and while it is a bit warmer by the touchpad then my older laptop, it is no where near hot. This is unmodified... I haven't used AS5 or removed any black dust blocker. I also haven't played intensive video games.
