I've upgraded my 5920G to 4GB of RAM, and have installed Vista x64 (Ultimate). I've downloaded all drivers from http://support.acer-euro.com and installed them (though not the Acer utilities). I'm now left with two "Base System Device" entries for hardware without the correct drivers. I've let Vista search the extracted drivers, and go online for drivers, but to no avail.

Originally there were four such entries after installing Vista and the drivers. Upon running Windows Update, two disappeared leaving just two.

I just wondered if anyone else had installed Vista x64, run into the same problem and managed to find the right drivers?

Just a guess, but does your device for a 4 in 1 card reader made by Ricoh? I missed this on my T61, and when I installed the driver for EACH system device by right clicking and browsing to the location of the 4 in 1 reader it went away. I didn't think it was that, but didn't realize each device type was a base device; i.e. XD, SD, CF, etc. all need a driver installed.

    Hope this helps,

    Phil

Cheers Phil - that was it.

The SD reader had been installed, but the 2 remaining "Base System Devices" were also Ricoh Card Reading slots.

The European Acer site doesn't actually have drivers for the card reader - but the PanAm Acer site does.

Downloaded the drivers from the PanAm site, tried the setup which didn't work, but used Device Manager to point at the extracted drivers and hey presto the drivers installed.

Now have a fully installed and working 5920 with Vista x64 Ultimate. :)

Phil - rep added, your help was very much appreciated!

Misteroy - I was crap, I didn't run any benchmarks prior to installing the RAM and upgrading to Vista x64.

However, I noticed a vast improvement in speed after the memory upgrade and rebuild. My Windows Experience Index scores went from:

    Processor: 4.7
    Memory: 4.5
    Graphics: 4.5
    Gaming Graphics: 4.7
    Primary Hard Disk: 4.6

    To (after the upgrade):

    Processor: 4.9
    Memory: 4.8
    Graphics: 4.6
    Gaming Graphics: 5.2
    Primary Hard Disk: 4.6

I've also installed my new 200GB 7200 RPM hard drive tonight, and re-ran WEI to get these results:

    Processor: 4.9
    Memory: 4.8
    Graphics: 4.6
    Gaming Graphics: 5.3
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.4

    I'm considering replacing the T7300 with a T7700 at somepoint too... :)

Get the latest driver form laptopvido2go.com. Download both the driver and the modded INF( What is modded INF?). If the driver can't "see" your GPU, go for the "Have Disk" method. Follow the guide.
