Does deleting the recovery partition and the original OS void your warranty? Only software support?
Thanks.

Software doesn't included in the warranty.
So, burn out your PQservices(OS recovery + Driver/Application) as backup(DVD).
Maybe you need to do a few copies. More secure.
Then, you delete your partitions as you like and install whatever OS as you wish.
After that, if you want to use back your original OEM OS, you can use the DVD that your burnt and boot back your original OEM OS. -
I'm waiting for my laptop to arrive so I don't have it yet, but I am trying to figure out the process of backing up the factory hard-drive contents and partition table prior before wiping it completely, repartitioning, and installing Windows 7.
1. What kind of disc imaging software would be required to backup the PQSERVICE recovery partition? Or should both the Windows and recovery partitions be backed up?
2. Basically what I'm asking is does PQSERVICE have to ability to generate your OEM OS again?
3. Would multiple DVDs be needed? I can imagine Windows Vista + PQSERVICE would be much bigger than 4.7GB.
Thanks. -
Go to your Acer eRecovery Management. I think I don't need to explain anymore. Use the Acer eRecovery Management to burn your PQservices out.
Recovery Discs can restore your OEM Windows Vista with every drivers/applications installed.
1 DVD is not enough. Probably need 2 DVDs for OEM Windows Vista.
And 1 DVD for Drivers/Applications.
So, in total, you need 3 DVDs. -
OK I see that will help me restore my OEM Vista and drivers/bloatware.
But I want to delete the PQSERVICE partition itself, and be able to replace it (in case to sending in the laptop for warranty service).
If any Acer owners can attest that deleting PQSERVICE doesn't void warranty, then no backup is necessary at all. -
I guess the PQservice is not included in the warranty because it is a software. With this sentence, it is obvious that it won't spoil your warranty.
Warranty is for hardware. PQservice is software.
You can use whatever software and install whatever stuffs to your HDD.
Acer won't bother it because when you got problems with software and you want a fix, they will charge you because software has no warranty.
As for Hardware, it has the warranty. So, when your hardware got problems, they will fix you for free under warranty. -
Thanks for that. I was confused because I found posts in previous threads saying simply installing a different OS would void the warranty.
I have contacted Acer Support, but they responded with a demand for my serial number instead of answering my straight-forward warranty question. -
So, you asked them about installing new OS would void the warranty?
I doubt NO. LOL.
Because in your Windows, there is a software called Windows Upgrade. It asks you to upgrade your Windows to a better and superior OS. For example: if you're using home premium, it would call you to upgrade to Business or Ultimate.
Upgrade the OS means installing a new OS by a reformat.
So, if it will void warranty why would this piece of Windows Upgrade is included in the original OEM OS that asks you to upgrade your Windows since upgrade windows is equal to format or install a new OS? -
Yeah I was wondering about deleting the recovery partition too, I sent them a brief reply and repeated my question, we'll see how that goes.

Burn your OEM recovery OS and driver/bloatware/applications out.
Then, install the new OS that you longed.
After that, you can use the driver/application that you burnt to install back some important drivers and software. So, you don't need to seek around the internet.
Warranty: PQSERVICE and original OS
