I have checked the acer home page, went on an online support chat, where I got really bad support information and a home phone number instead of a support hotline, no help at all.

I want to install Windows 7 for my laptop, and I am curious to know if this will affect my warranty. A friend of mine has an HP and apparently his warranty was affected when he erased the original OS(Windows Vista) and installed a new one(Windows 7). Is the 2 year warranty my laptop came with subject to the same rule? I purchased an Acer Aspire One if it helps.

I got bad feedback information because apparently of restrictions in Puerto Rico or something. If anyone could confirm for me it'd be great, I am kind of in a hurry to upgrade my laptop since I am way behind on a few projects, both personal and college-related.

If I am in the wrong place then I apologize, I've been checking online and this seems to be the only place where I can get a straight awnser

warranty is not affected by software installed OTHER than you must restore the pc to its original system specific software for any end user phone support..

For example you go install say Linux on your pc and wipe your HDD totally before you do so. Windows XP / Vista does not exist, how are they supposed to help you (other than diagnose hardware problems that don't require software) OEM providors (dell / hp / etc.) all like to have you play by their rules when it comes to support, and I would as well.

Warranty is intact if you go install 7, just restore it to what it was if you have to send it in for something (say the screen cracks or what not).

BUT BEFORE YOU DO SO READ BELOW!

Go install Acronis and make a 1 to 1 image of your HDD before you play around with 7 and other software. That way you can go back if anything goes wrong. Good 45.00 investment.

    **edit X3**

Aspire One eh? No optical drive will make it hard to install software / restore it. Make sure you have an external optical drive and backup before you go any further.

As far as Puerto Rico goes, I don't know what the statue of limitations are for that. Perhaps someone else can help.

    Enjoy
