hello folks,
I hope this is the right section to ask questions about an acer laptop,
my deep apologize if it's the wrong section .
it's been a while and i was lookin to buy a new laptop, my main request wasthat it will be light wieght, strong and good battery performance.
at first I consider the Acer timelinex because it's a pretty cheap machine
but as i start to read here, It's look like this machine has a lot of problems ( throttling , overheating )
this is my main questions.
1. throttling issue, can someone explain exactly what is it ? is that mean the fan getting choke ? (sorry, english is not my native langauge)
2. I read some reviews that saying the computer getting overheated even when it's on idle, is that true ?
3.I must say i'm a little bit confused, because this laptop come with
different video card in every model
Navidia 520M , intel 3000 and Switchable ATi Radeon HD 5650 graphics.
my question is, do you all think that the intel 3000 will keep the computer at cool tempature better than the other 2 video cards ? or it doesnt matter ?
which video card do you all recommend ?
4. any regrets buying this laptop ? is there any better laptop without these issues that you all recommend to buy ? ( same price range of course )
5. what's the different between 3820 to 3830 ? what do you all recommend to buy ?

Hi
The throttling issue occurs because the processor reaches a certain temperature and reduces its speed to cool down!
The 3830TG ships with nVidia cards and latest Sandy Bridge processor, and the 3820TG ships with ATi/AMD cards and older Intel 1st generation i5/i3 processors.
I too was put off by the throttling issues on the 3830TG so I went for the 3820TG
If you were to just run the Intel HD graphics on the 3830TG (or save some money and buy 3830T) then you shouldn't have any throttling issues.
I believe the throttling only occurs when both graphics card and processor are under load.
And finally the throttling issue is only an inherent problem on the 3830TG, AFAIK under normal circumstances the 3820TG is fine. -
thank you for the quick reply.
I definitely not going to buy the Nvidia or the ATI video card since it's making trouble.
so my thoughts are to buy the 3830T (with the IntelĀ® HD Graphics 3000, BTW is it 1gb or 512 MB ? ) since it's 600 $ only or the asus U36SD, i'm so confused i really don't know what to buy - I do want a durable laptop and I hate laptops that getting overheating when idle mode.
I know it's not proper to ask in acer section but still,
what do you all think should i go with ?
ASUS u36SD or acer 3830T ? -
I think the thing worth considering most is whether you want/need dedicated graphics.
If you are ok with just the intel graphics (you don't really play games) then the 3830T would be a fine choice.
If you do play games I would reccomend the U36SD (stronger graphics than 3830T) or the 3820TG (stronger graphics than 3830T and U36SD).
I'm not sure exactly how much all of these models cost in the states but it's worth considering your needs and finding a balance. Maybe you should fill in the form on the "What notebook should I buy?" section on the forum.
Was about to buy Acer 3830tg until i got here...
