So, I just downloaded Notebook Hardware Control, and it's showing my CPU as running at 150F/65C, isn't that far too hot? Especially because the fan on the side of my notebook will NOT turn on, and i don't understand why, I feel like this is dangerous, is there any way I can force the fan on my notebook to run for a short period of time? I've looked for a program like that for a while to no avail...

I have an Acer Travelmate 4674WLMi

If you have any suggestions please post up!

Mine tops out @ 70C while gaming. anything over that and I would start to worry.

The thing I'm worrying about is that I am not gaming right now, I'm just on the internet, nothing else, very few peripherals running, I am almost entirely sure it's because the damn fan never runs, so... any ideas? 63C seems a little insane at idle...

First of all, That's the reason I don't like Acer laptops.

    Second,

Look at your process list: Ctrl+alt+del, Click "CPU" to sort it and see what's "eating" your cpu.

Nothing's eating up my CPU, it's idle'ing at about 15% usage, which I think is about normal for background stuff.

Take the thermal panel off the bottom of your notebook (panel over system fan) and clean out any dust and debris you find on the fan or its vents. What you have described sounds like a classic overheating situation where your fan intake vents are partially blocked. This is especially the case because you aren't doing anything that should have your temps up so high, IMO anything over 50c for just surfing the net is too high! I am surfing and listening to music now and my temp is 44c @800mhz. As ssx4life pointed out the only time your temps should be up that high is if you are gaming which you aren't.

Notebook users have to realize that over time these fans can suck up alot of dust and from time to time you have to take the panel off and clean out the dust and other debris.
