Recently, my laptop has been making a very weird sound, a croaking/clicking sound. I don't remember having it in my entire usage of this aspire 5573.
I read from another thread that they already solved it in XP, mine is Vista though.

I think it's from my HD, did it loosened up? Cause I do remember my baby tapping the laptop. :( Help needed. Or is it my fan? ;< I have no idea which of the two is making an annoying sound. Thanks

    Manufacturer: Acer
    Model: Aspire 5573ZWXMi
    Processor: Genuine Intel (R) CPU T2080 @ 1.73GHz
    RAM: 1GB
    System Type: 32-bit OS
Windows Edition: Windows Vista Basic Home
    SP2

sometimes on some computers you can get a pretty loud clicking sound of the hard drive engaging if it was asleep. this is most noticeable on 7200rpm drives though. usually its just once as the drive engages not a constant clicking. ive never heard it on a 5400 rpm drive.

It happened just yesterday. And I know nothing about this stuff so It would be a great help if someone can help me. And the clicking sound starts when laptop has been used for hours, does it mean that it came from my fan? ;< I do hope someone can help me, the clicking sound is a bit annoying.

Also post your HD SMART status- full table with all parameters from i.e. HD Tune (free) Maybe there's something alarming there.

From my experience, a clicking sound could indicate that the hard drive could fail soon. Might be a good idea to back up your files already to another drive as you try to figure out what's wrong.
