Hello Everyone, my name's Matthew and I'm new to the forum. I have a problem with both of my Acer laptops. It's very annoying to say the least because I have to restart the computer every time to resolve the issue.

I have two Acer Aspire laptops, one Aspire 4330 and the other is Aspire 7736Z. Both have vertical bars with scrambly colors. The bars are about an inch and a half apart and about an inch and a half wide. These weird bars only appear after the computer has been in hibernation. What causes them, and how can I resolve them (without restarting every time)?

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to what you all have to offer.

PS: Here's what it looks like:

They both already have the latest Graphics drivers, and for the GPU, the Aspire 7736Z has Intel GMA 4500M and the Aspire 4330 has Intel also, not sure which model exactly. The 4330 is about a year and a half old, and the 7736Z isn't even a week old yet.

I know. It seems maybe it's a problem with Acer maybe? Not sure. I've never seen it on any other laptop.

    Here's more shots of it:

I've heard of similar reports on Aspire 7520 with nVidia integrated card. Could it be a bad windows update? I'll get that laptop soon and if it's related, I'll post here.

EDIT: The 7520 is running Vi$ta ultimate 32bit.

The GPU might be overheating. There also might be micro-fractures or something that need to be fixed by baking the motherboard.

I dont have this problem YET, but i think it might happen, everytime i leave my laptop On(windows 7) and then it goes into sleep mode, after that on the same screen you are showing the screen shake and make some weird noise, so i always shut it down now, im really afraid, if you have the solution i'll keep checkin this topic . :))

According to the Crucial scanner, it has 2 GB in one slot and 1 GB in the other.

But for the Aspire 4330 it's 1GB per slot.

For the BIOS, I haven't updated anything (except windows updates) since the computer is only days old. Do I go to the Acer site to do this?

I have the Acer 7736z. I downgraded my OS to W7 32-bit from the 64-bit that came from Acer. The problems started then. Once I put the original OS back on, the bars stopped... so far.

Seems to be an issue with the GPU under 32-bit Windows platforms. I have Ubuntu 32-bit installed under a 2nd partition, and it doesn't have the issue, however, in Ubuntu, I lose my wireless signal often.

Unusual problem, yet you have it twice on two different laptops.

What else did you do besides swapping OS. . .

For Linux get the driver from Source file compile make install (of course you need GCC installed) and you are fine.

Hi, matthew88. My girlfriend has the same problem like you: Acer, windows 7 and the same lines after hibernate. Do you have a solution yet ?
By the way ... as I recall it was the same with an older windows 7 release.

Same here, latest driver from Intel, Acer Aspire 5740. Like you guys, only on sleep wakeup. Right click and refresh clears it right up... Any progress on this? Windows 7 64 bit

I think Acer has issues with graphics cards. The x3100 on my old 6920 was defective.

From my experience this kind of graphic corruption is caused by the graphic card (memory failing or when overheated).
Any desktop/notebook who I saw and had this effect had gpu problems. It can usually be seen when running Furmark I think
