Acer ranks among the world's top ten branded PC vendors, designing and marketing easy, dependable IT solutions that empower people to reach their goals and enhance their lives. In 2000, Acer spun-off its manufacturing operation to focus on globally marketing its brand-name products: desktop and mobile PCs, servers and storage, displays, peripherals, and e-business solutions for business, government, education, and home users. Established in 1976, the pan Acer Group employs 39,000 people supporting dealers and distributors in over 100 countries. Revenues reached US$12.9 billion in 2002. . . .

Ha, I probably got you to read all of that. [ :p] As the new moderator for the Acer forum I would like to give a shout out to all of you lurkers who have questions or comments about Acer laptops.. . lets hear 'em! I think we'll have a grand ole time sitting on our computers typing about Acer laptops. . .so what are you waiting for, lets go! [ ;)]

Slat, what Google search did you do to pull that marketing about marketing for Acer? Ha! Nice.

I'll also add that Acer is most certainly a good brand, but they are more popular in Europe than in the U.S. for whatever reasons so depending on where you are in the world Acer might or might not be a household name for computing electronics.

Oh, I didn't use google. I've been perusing most manufacturer's websites looking for technical info on their laptops (was in the process of buying, made a decision now) and in my demented mind I saw a use for that bit of marketing. [ :p]

Acer is #5 in sales in the US!
"Acer leaps over Fujitsu to become the #5 maker of notebook sales"
"With shipments amounting to 946,000 units in the fourth quarter of last year, Acer shipped a total of 2.49 million notebooks in 2003, up 76% from the previous year's 1.41 million.

Acer continues to be very strong in both China and Europe. In Western Europe Acer obtained an 18.3% share of notebook sales, exactly tied with the HP share of the market in Europe. Acer estimates it will ship between 3.5 million and 4 million notebooks this year and hopes to challenge IBM for the #3 spot in worldwide sales for 2004.

Acer said it would make all-out efforts to boost shipment to the mainland China and the U.S. markets this year by introducing a wide-array of notebooks targeted at both consumers and business. Acer ranked No.9 in the U.S. notebook market in terms of shipment in the fourth quarter of last year, so they have room to grow in the U.S. for sure."
