    Hi all!

I'm currently looking at this product:

    https://caen-store.acer.com/aspire-7-laptop-a715-72g-55ep

It's on sale for $999 CAD and looks good on paper.

    15.6", Intel Core i5-8300H, 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, 128GB SSD / 1TB HDD, NVIDI GTX 1050 4GB

I will mainly use it as my go to laptop but also to do some light gaming. Is this a good deal or can I do better?

Are you looking for the best deal?Bang for your buck? Does it have to be Acer?
Dell usually has great deal on the G3/G5 model for much less with the same CPU but much better GPU.

If you are not using memory express or your local shops, my friend in Alberta noticed that the y530 was pretty cheap on lenovos site

Thanks guys, will look at those both.

mainly looking to get the most out of the amount I have budgetted ($1,000CAD). Any brand is good so long as it isnt a business laptop only, as this would be for personal use. light gaming, processsing and music recording.

Is your company buying it? If not, then used m6700/m6800 are pretty cheap. You could get a decent one for about 400 USD then buy a 980m 8GB for 330 USD and install it yourself.

They are a bit heavy though and no warranty since its used of course, but I havent personally used a better machine.

No, its me buying it. Its a personal computer. My concern with lenovo (not their customer service whcih I hear is excellent) is their standard laptops are more business style.

Havent heard of m6700s. More into getting something new than used as my last laptop was used too and its lost some its life sooner than hoping.

Finding the Dell G3/G5 models for way more expensive than the acer I found. Same specs mainly, except the Nvidia is the ti version and its coming up at around $1,400 CAD which goes above my budget a lot.

Same on bestbuy and at walmart from what im seeing.

To put things into perspective, my m4600 has been pulled out of retirement 3 times now because the y510p and Alienware 17 both died before it.

The lenovo y530 is their gamer line. You can probably find one in your local Costco as thats how my friend checked it out in Calgary iirc. This way you can check it out before pulling the trigger.

Have you tried looking at the ACER Nitro?
They are usually found fairly cheap in the US not sure how prices match up in Canada.
One option I’ve been thinking about is someone in the US buying one for you and bringing/shipping it to you.
You can get a GTX 1060 laptop in the US for $ 700-$800 and have them bring it to if possible.

Unfortunately I wont be able to get something brought up from the States.

The Nitro is a bit too "gamer" in its appearance for my tastes. I don't like the red back lights and the grills. I want a laptop that looks like a standard laptop that can be used for every day purposes or standard work, with the option to use it for entertainment. If I ever need to use it professionally, the gamer look wont fly.

Which is why Im looking for an all rounder.

So you want a non gaming looking laptop that doesn't look professional either? You lost me lol

Looking professional is fine. The onyl look I dont want is the red, grilled gamer style PC. Any other style of Laptop is fine :)
