I would like to hear your thoughts (especially Brian's) on the build quality and support of Acer. Reason: they have a notebook that I am drooling over and I can't find anything close to its specs, for even twice the amount of money!

Intel Pentium 4 Processor 3 GHz/1M cache/800 FSB with HT Technology, Microsoft
    Windows XP Home Edition, 1GB RAM PC2700, 120GB HDD 7200 RPM, DVD-Dual (DVD+/-RW),
    6-in-1
card reader 17.0 SXGA TFT display, 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700 graphics,
    802.11g WLAN, 10/100 LAN, V.92 modem, one-year limited warranty
    UPC: 099802173159
    Part #: LX.A1505.099
    ESP: $1,899

Sign me up. . .if they are a reputable company. Please say they are! Lol Seriously though, just want your opinions. I don't want to make a mistake, but geez, look at those specs, how could I?!

hey Slat, Acer is most definitely a reputable company and no small player. They're the #2 notebook maker in Europe but not quite as popular in the U.S. for whatever reason...only due to marketing I suppose because their quality is the same the world over.

*Wipes brow* Thanks a lot guys. I just (as you mentioned because of marketing) haven't heard of them and don't want to buy ANY laptop from a third rate company, no matter how good the specs. You have no idea how glad I am to hear that they are of good quality (you really don't). Any comments on support? I would suppose it would be as good as their build quality, but I have to ask anyway.

Acer is top notch, you can't go wrong there. As for support, I've heard good things, especially if you travel overseas at all.

    Hi Slat,

Could I know the model with the specs you mentioned? I'm based in Malaysia and want to check if its arrived here already.

    Thanks

Sure, the 1700 series. The one I quoted is the 1710 series, although I can't seem to find it on sale anywhere. . .which is frustrating because I just sold THIS one and I really need another soon and I obviously want it. Heh.

I'm going to call their sales number to inquire about it, I'll update this later today with my results. Wish me luck. [8D]

Update: I called Acer up and they don't know when it will be shipping, within a month was what I was told. Can I live w/o a computer for that long? [ ;)]

I'm satisfied with Acer's support. I've sent my Acer Aspire 1203 XC twice for repair, and both times it was fixed without any trouble.
