What is going on?? DVD drive or HDD?? Ferrari 4000

Okay I have an Acer Ferrari 4000 for about 2 months now. And I am having a problem.
Certain programs I can not install or can not use after install.
For example C&C Generals fresh out of box can not install certain files are missing. Like tm1.*** But the funny thing I rebooted the laptop tried install again the process wnet through on tm1.*** and stopped at tm5.*** so it is pretty random hit and miss.
Or I tried to install GTA Vice city. Install okay, but when I put the play cd in and click start(play) the drive ask me to put the right cd in... The task manager is loaded down 100% at this point so the program is tried tp start but it is failed. I had to reboot again.
Third set of cd-s Emperor: Battle fo Dune same like above install: OK. At play "can not find cd put correct cd in the drive"

Anybody has an idea??

ps: Is it possible that maybe some program is messing up my system?
Maybe a WinXP reinstall fix the problem???

 

Bad drives or bad controller. Try the lastest drivers for you chipset/ide. If that does not work call Acer and get it in for repair.
