I am really surprised - I have had no problem with my Acer.

Windows (XP ~ 80%, Vista ~ 98%) picks up all the drivers my notebook needs. The acer support page, like you say, does not have all the recovery tools. Then again, I found those tools to be useless and used third-party ones, or none at all.

You might try out going to a notebook related to the 3860 - whatever that may be, possibly a 38XX or 3XXX model and using those tools if you really need them.
