Looking at the Acer USA website they have no laptops over 1600 x 900 resolution and no 18.4" screens. I see the new V3 lline that does have a 17.3 " screen with 1600 x 900. Does anyone know it they will continue the Ethos line of 18.4" screens? The old 8951G is no longer shown on the USA Acer page. I did notice at Newegg Alienware does have a 18.4"' screen on their new ivy bridge i7 gaming machine. Are 18.4's being phased out across the industry? I hope Acer would at least release at least 1 - 17.3" machine with 1920 x 1080 resolution.

I guess it is the same reason they put DDR3 RAM in the GPUs?

Acer has always been behind the curve on display technology. I think it is, in part, to keep prices down. They typically try to pack decent specs into a low cost package so they complete effectively on price. But, the display has been their weakpoint for quite some time. The new S7 touchscreen ultrabook due out in the fall will be a 13" with 1080p display. Hopefully, this will be the start of a new trend for Acer.

I think its because the majority of normal users could care less about resolution, and more about price. I don't miss a high resolutions on my notebook at all. On my desktop monitors, yes, because I use it. On my notebooks, I don't miss it.
