Hm... Whats with all the difference specs? On the official acer timeline page it says 15.6" not 15.4" and 4gb of ram with the SU3500 or SU9600 not the 2700 :\

visiting taiwan at the moment, had a chance to play with a 3810 firsthand. have to say i'm very impressed with it, build quality felt top notch. the unfortunate thing is that most stores are only carrying the SU3500 version, with a price tag of about USD$760. this is pretty reasonable to me. to get the SU9400 version, though, the price jumps dramatically, to about $1150. ridiculous, really...i highly doubt intel is selling the processors at a price difference of $400.

i really want to get the core 2 duo version, but the price is just ridiculous. anyone know if this is about the price it will be when these finally are available in the US?

It's available since a week here and it costs 715 euro for the SU9400/4GB/320GB.

(Prices for laptops in the US tend to be a lot lower.)

amazon uk is currently listing the SU9400 model at 700 pounds for June 9th delivery, which equates to about $1150, similar to what i'm seeing here in taiwan. yet all announcements and reports seem to point to a $899 price point when it hits the US. laptopmag in their review states pretty confidently that the SU9400 version will retail for $899, as well, but that is quite the hefty difference, and i'm beginning to doubt that if/when it becomes more widely available in the states it will be selling at 900.

any one with insider info able to shed some light on this?

Conversing currency like that does not work for laptops because they are much cheaper in the US than in UK.

Provantage lists the T3810 for $600 with Core Solo
That means the Core 2 Duo with 500GB will be around $800.

In Europe the Solo model is 600 euros, the duo with 320GB 750.

Laptop prices usually translate as 1 euro = 1 US$.

interesting...is that based off historical data phil? i'd love for that to be true, but it would seem to create some obvious arbitrage opportunities. are there laws or other factors in place that cause this disparity?

if not...well then i might just have to start buying laptops in the US and then selling them in europe =]

No need to reinvent the wheel...after paying VAT and custom fees the price will be the same or even higher. You can't beat the system ;)

    Based on current prices.

I've done it a couple of times. Especially with Sony laptops it can be interesting. Even after shipping costs and customs costs.
