Took delivery of an Aspire 5613 last weekend. It seems to be marketed as an "entertainment" notebook of sorts. Yet I could not find any DVD playing software, bar windows media player which came as part of vista.

There is a suite called Acer Arcade Deluxe, but this does not contain a player.

I had an old copy of PowerDVD 6 which I have added, but this is not completely compatible with Vista and whilst it plays, it does not play as well as it should.

Is there a DVD playing programme included amongst the ACER software that I am missing?

Acer Arcade takes on the role as a DVD player as far as I know.

Acer Arcade has a Cinema option for playing DVD's. Isn't it on your menu when you open Acer Arcade?

Alternatively you can install a codec pack such as CCCP ( http://www.cccp-project.net) and you can use either the media players that are included or WMP to watch DVDs.

I have Acer Arcade Deluxe which I believe is different to Acer Arcade. There was no player included. I'll take another look when I get home. When I put a DVD in for the time over the weekend I think WMP was the only option that the machine gave me as a player.

Just checked again and the player is within Windows Media Centre. Problem solved :)
