I am considering purchasing an acer notebook, either an AS2012WLMi or an AS2012WLCi. I live in Montréal Québec Canada. I have visited a few online stores already. It seems that the Acer notebooks are priced above the exchange rate in Canada. Does anyone know any particular stores that are reputable and have good prices?

    Thanks

Here's Acer's Authorized Retail Stores search engine. Just click on Québec and it should give you a huge list of retailers that sell their products in Montréal, including all other cities in Québec.

Not sure if you meant the Buy Acer tab in their website. There I found either companies only deal with business accounts or stores with no inventory (special order only). Maybe I looked in the wrong place, but I just couldn’t find a retail outlet at all. And this is in the SF Bay Area.

hey dude, i feel your pain,

however, PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! use ECOST.COM or ETRONICS.COM and locate the Aspire 2012WLMi (type in AS2012 into the ECOST.COM search, just type in Aspire 2012 into ETRONICS.COM). The reason im suggesting these two sites is that they give you the cheapest possible price (for canadians anyway) and they use a tool called BorderFree which works with Canada Post and gives you a final price (duties and taxes, shipping and handling all included and total in CAD). the 2012WLMi on ecost.com is CAD$2152.xx, check it out, going to frontierpc.com or directdial.com means paying 2100 for the pc plus additional shipping and tax!!!!

    wooohoo to whoever invented borderfree!!!!

dont let the quantity of stock currently available rush you into buying something that you are not 100% sure about.

    Tiffaz,
I don't know if you got the info I sent PM'd you, but here's the Acer link for their search engine to authorized retail stores for you and anyone else looking. It works for both Canada & US. Just select "Buy from an Authorized Acer Reseller near you" and it'll show you a map. Just select your Province (Canada) or State (US) or enter your area code. It'll then list off all the Authorized Retaillers in your area.

Thanks for the information. I've looked at the sites ecost.com and etronics.com and the prices are cheaper than in Canada. Has anyone purchased from these sites, and if so what are your experiences? Also, us the warranty still valid in Canada if the notebook is bought in the US?

Regarding the differences in price, did you fact or the exchange rate (if you're in Canada) and any taxes/shipping?
Regarding the warranty, as long as it's an International Warranty, you should be fine. If not, it'll only be vlaid in the US.

    hah
i live in montreal too and was getting pretty frustrated to see shops around here selling the 2012wlmi for 500$ more before taxes. The problem now is ecost seems to not have the wlmi anymore and etronics is sold out.

Are there any other sites that sell it for 1300 and that ship to canada? This laptop seemed to have everything i was looking for at a pretty good price.

The only other place I could find at $1300USD was Newegg, but I don't think they ship to Canada. [V]

I too am looking for a 2012lmi and went today to Acer in Oakville located at 3375 Laird Rd. Unit #2 to find out where I could purchase this notebook.
I was told that the 2012 has been discontinued and that all that is left is what can be had at the retail stores. Asked what will replace the 2012 and was told that a new notebook will be out soon but will not be available for two to three months. She would not say what model this is.
She printed out a list of the retail outlets that sell Acer products ( this list is available from their website www.acer.ca). So far have not found a retailer that stocks this unit 2012lmi.

I called Acer America and asked what replaces the 2012lmi and they said that they would send me an e-mail which is shown below.

Why would they replace such a popular notebook and why not replace it with a centrino???

Not sure what to do now, do I still keep looking for a retailer that stocks the 2012lmi and if I find one should I buy it? Will Acer still support this notebook and to what extent?

Below is the reply from Acer USA. I have removed the senders name.

"I have included all available specifications regarding the Aspire 1802WSMi that I mentioned earlier. It is on our price list but has not yet been released. This appears to be a desktop replacement which is approximately 18 pounds. In checking further, it appears the Aspire 2025WLMi replaced the Aspire 2010WLMi but was this model was also discontinued. There does not appear to be a direct replacement for the Aspire 2025WLMi. The closest would b e the Aspire 1662WLMi which is on our site at http://www.acer.ca under Notebooks and the Aspire 1660 Series.

    Respectfully,

    Acer America "
