I think I am going to get an Acer because they seem affordable and high quality. I am looking for a notebook I will use 50% mobile at hotspots and 50% at home. Is a Travelmate better than an Aspire for this? Also, if anyone has any specific model recs, that would be great...I'll quote what I put in the main forum about my specs

TravelMates are Acer's business line, where Aspires are their consumer line. I'd get a TM if you plan to do a lot of office work, typing, and tasks similar to that. Aspires are probably better for multimedia jobs, such as gaming, movie viewing, etc, since they normally have CrystalBrite screens, etc.

I'd say a TM would be better for you, since you hardly do anything multimedia-oriented. Here is an Acer with a 2.0GHz PM. Good value for the money. If you want to save yourself some cash, you could also pick up the same model, except with a slightly slower processor (you won't notice a difference in what you're doing), which I recommend. Link

    Happy buying! :D

    Chazman,

The link you gave doesn't seem to be working. Think the site's down. In the meantime, could you tell me the model number of the TravelMate you're referring to.

    Cheers

I didn't realize the Travelmate was the business line. Generally that is OK for what I do, but will it handle movies and music OK? I will be playing music and short video clips from time to time. I probably won't watch any movies, but just in case does the Travelmate do OK with movies and graphics?

I just looked....the TM 4650 looks great. It says the resolution is 1024x768...I like to use 1174x868, will I be able to do that? Also, what is DDR333...I have heard debate over DDR vs. DDR2, but what is DDR333. How much does it usually cost to upgrade from 512 RAM to 1024 RAM?

Thanks for your help! I think a business line would suit my needs, but please let me know if these models are at least flexible enough to handle graphics and movies from time to time.

Any laptop with a DVD drive and a sound card should be able to play movies and music. If you are really interested in movies I'd look into a wide screen laptop maybe the 4500, this will minimize the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen when viewing wide screen movies.
