    Hello All

This is my first post to this forum :)
I have a Acer Aspire 5500 notebook. I want to open it to upgrade its RAM to 2 GB. Can u suggest me a cheap n best screwdriver for opening the screws. I am not able to find any specific screw driver in ShopRite,Target n BestBuy stores.

a set of jewelers screwdrivers is all you need,,,, just a MINI PHILLIPS screwdriver (or a 4 way)

i bought a nice set of Kronus screwdrivers at a local electronics repair store... but they are overkill for just using one time....

Welcome to the Acer forums esumitkumar
Hope you stay a long time.

bigO is as usually 100% correct.

Rep to you esumitkumar for at least posting here and asking for advice instead of using the wrong tool for the job and then moaning because the screws are stripped (then you have to drill them out....which = bad news)

I almost forgot. The tools you have chosen look fine and up to the job.

    Cheers,
    Theo

    those radioshack screwdrivers are fine....

as for your cd have you tried cleaning the laser-lens?
if that doesn't help, you probably wont have much luck trying to fix it yourself. you can buy either an internal or external DVD drive..

after opening the RAM COVER, there is only 1 screw holding the CD-DRIVE inside the laptop.. and almost all slimline-laptop dvd burners are interchangeable... so you are not limited to the hardware installed by ACER.

i have upgraded my drive to an NEC/OPTIARC 6550A which i've had for 7 months with no bad burns.... bought it for $50
