    Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, basically I wanted help with my Acer Aspire 2000. When a battery is inserted and the power cable is in, the charging light appears, I then switch on the laptop and it powers up within 5 seconds of it being on and trying to boot it will power down without notice.

If I remove the battery I can run the laptop fine off the mains. If I then connect the battery it will cause the laptop to power down.

I have tried two other batteries thinking it was a fault with the battery, but this is not the case.

I just wanted to know could it be a setting in the BIOS or has anyone came accross this in the past.

Any help would be gratefully received.

    Cheers,

    Jett

    Hi, welcome to NBR.

Nope, there is no such option in the BIOS. You said you tried different batteries with the same result so I think something is wrong with the battery bay, where the battery is supposed to make contact. Maybe something in there failed or battery doesn't make contact at all due some reason..This a problem really hard to identify and I have no idea how can you test it or fix it..

    Thanks for that reply.

The fact that it can run without a battery, why would the battery housing cause this, surely the worst thing that happens is it just runs off the mains.

Does it sound like a hardware problem then.

Yes, I think it's a hardware problem. I think the battery, when inserted, is "blocking" the current to pass and "enter" into the motherboard which usually is caused by faulty battery. But you said you tried different batteries which means the problem is probably the "connector" into the battery bay where the battery make contact with the motherboard.
