I've just had a little idea spring to mind. I hope it hasn't been done before and that no one will get mad at me doing this.

    Here's the idea.

Every laptop manufacturer/brand has something unique about it. Each have their advantages and disadvantages, and their fanbase. Something must draw the fans to this brand or that, and I'd like to know what.

So I'm gonna post a thread like this in the forums dedicated to each of the major manufacturers (i.e. the ones who have the most active forums).

I welcome everyone (especially the fans of the particular brand) to post what is it that they like about these laptops. Any reasons are welcome - from features and performance to price and family traditions.

Of course, you can also post things that you don't like.

So, why do you like Acer?

Well, apart from the hardware inside it (my beautiful Turion and X700), I love the great price/performance ratio. I got everything in mine (100G, XPP, 512M, WLAN, X700, 15.4", 8Cell, Turion) for under $1,300 USD.

What I really like about my Acer is the build quality. It is really solid, and doesn't flex at all. The plastic has a nice sheen to it. When I tap the laptop anywhere on it, there is no 'hollow' sound and the plastic doesn't rattle. Everything is put together very snugly, nice fit. The plastic is high quality. :)

It also looks great, and it looks very elegant to me, from all angles. And although it looks nice, it won't attract very much attention, which is a good thing to many people (like me). :p

I also love the keyboard. Mine has a 5 degree curve to it, has great key travel and layout, and it has a perfect layout, and produces excellent feedback.

Definitely something unique about an Acer. I will probably stay with them the next time I got to buy a laptop :D

Acer is one of the top 10 notebook manufacturers in the world~
However Acer is not very popular in US~
I did not find Acer in Best Buy or Circuit City~
I checked the price of Acer on line~
I do not think the price is that good~
It is not that difficult to find a Toshiba notebook at about the same price with the same CPU and memory~

My first notebook is Acer, it was bought in UK~
Because the price is a couple hundred pounds less than Toshiba at the same CPU and memory~

    For me,
if the Acer could give me the best price, I will choose Acer,
but if it could not, I will choose other brands~

For me I choose Acer because it was the best gaming system I could get in my price range that had international service/warranty. The Dells came close, but were more expensive and ASUS W2V was too expensive, and the Asus Zs don't have service/warranty outside of where you buy them. I couldn't find an IBM/HP/Toshiba/Fujitsu that had specs I liked....

I agree with adumare in that is was the 'most' machine I could get for my money. As mentioned the Dell 9300 came close but it was more $$$.

Also the footprint was the best for what I wanted . I intend to pass this Laptop on the my daughter and it is relatively light.

I am also a fan of the underdog - I did quite a bit of research and Acer 8104 came out well. I used to have a Dell Latitude (still do actually - C800 - it is just ancient is all) and it was rock solid, got 4 years (and counting) use out of it. One Battery repalcment / memory upgrade / new hd) .

I can only hope the Acer holds out as long.

Yeah i agree with all of the above but the main reason for me was such good value for money. ;)

For me i like it because it has a amazing design, the older models did not use to have nice designs but then the Acer 3200 came along, and that was the first to have the "folio" design
