 Totally ticked off at acer right now. I sent my laptop in a few weeks ago to be repaired no big deal or so i thought. I called today thinking my laptop should have been back to me by now she had informed me that it had been repaired and sent back to the owner. NO it didnt i am the owner it should have been back to me.Apparently it was registered to another man in quebec how i dont know? you tell me im in ontario. I fight with her for a bit she got rather upset with me i guess she thought i was lying or something. She asked for my reciept i fax her it she calls back apolgetic knowing im right and tells me theyll try and get it back for me but theres a good chance thwy wont be able to and says they might send me one of equal or greater value i just want mine back :(

MIGHT?!? Ummm, they screwed up so they have an obligation to provide you with a replacement. Tell them that, as far as you are concerned, they need to resolve this within the next two weeks or you are going to contact your credit card company and request a chargeback on Acer.

I think I may have a theory on how this may have happened. This applies if you have had the motherboard replaced by Acer.

When you call Acer you have to give them the System Serial Number, you are supposed to give them the Serial Number at the bottom of your system, if you read off the serial number from a program in Windows such as eManage/Empowering Technology, then that is what can cause this screw-up to happen.

This would happen because when the laptop is brought into the repair depot, it is scanned, this is faster than going into Windows and checking the serial number that way. When you check the serial number in Windows, its different because the motherboard serial numbers are supposed to be the same as the system serial number, but since the motherboard was changed, they do not match.

This sort of happened to be before, motherboard replaced, the new one got registered to someone in the United States. While my system serial number was still registered to me. When I had my warranty extended, I gave them the new motherboard serial number, the guy in the U.S. got the extra 2 years.

Depending on your warranty, no matter how many times your computer breaks or even if the cost of all total repairs reaches $1 000 000+, they will never give you a new laptop. I tried to get them to give me a new laptop in exchange for the old one but they said my warranty was a Repair-Only Warranty, the CSR even talked to a higher-up to see if I could get a new one, but sadly no.

Since Acer lost your laptop they should give you a brand new one if they cannot get your original one back. If you don't get a call back from Acer then just keep on calling, ask to speak to a person above the CSR's, force your way to talk to a manager.

I had to send my Aspire in for repair a few months ago and the repair happened without a hitch. Convincing the people at Acer that there was actually a problem, though, was quite difficult.
