The backup includes everything available when you first received your laptop and turned it on. It formats C:, but reinstalls absolutely everything such as OS and Acer drivers, right down to the trial software installed on your C:

In my opinion it works perfectly. Never had trouble with it, and I've reinstalled 5 times on my 5920 Aspire.

 Don't touch my notebook ;)

And for real- does it format only C:? What if you repartition or resize?
Older versions used to delete both partitions and recreate it from the scratch.
