I recently purchased an Aspire 5610z and just did a reformat with Visa Home Premium. I have been having lots of trouble with the wifi, the light on the front does not turn on and when hit the switch it says no wireless device. The bottom of the laptop says it has an Atheros AR5BXB63 and when I installed the drivers vista found it as Atheros AR5007EG and says the driver is working correctly. No matter what I do it doesn’t seem to work and it always wants me to turn on the device, but the switch on the front doesn't do anything and neither does the Bluetooth switch. If you know of anything I can do that would be great or maybe some info on drivers that work or just anything. Any help would be great thanks!

If I wanted to talk to Acer for 10 hours instead of asking anyone on here and be able to spend 10 hours doing other things, then I would have.

Thank you for the WONDERFUL advice.

Not having Vista or knowing what kind of power management software you have I'll throw this out.

Can you turn on the wirless card from your power management utility? If so that would point to a hardware problem involving the panel switches. The fact that the Bluetooth switch doesn't work either points to this too. It might be something as simple as the cable for the switches not seated in the connector properly.

It sounds like you'll have to deal with Acer service, this is probably a hardware problem. How long ago did you buy it? If it was recent maybe the store will just replace it with a new one. Acer might do that as well.

    Just my two shillings..
