I was wondering if my Acer upgrade W7 Home premium 32bit key would activate a downloaded W7 Home Premium 64bit iso. (I have su9400 processor, so can run 64bit).
Acer claims its upgrade won't support this, but I'd be interested to find out if anybody has managed it.

But from where were you able to download the Windows 7 home premium 64 bit?
I wanted to try the same but could not figure out were to download it from and now my laptop itself is not with me.
Hey why don't you give it a try, I guess it will ask for the key in the beginning itself so I guess your system would remain intact even if the key is not accepted -

Just got my 'Windows 7 Upgrade Kit' from Acer.
Two disks:
Acer Upgrade DVD (Acer Upgrade Wizard + Applications, drivers for Windows 7)
Windows 7 Upgrade Media (This disc contains 32-bit software only).
Product key and COA on the back.
I will have to perform a custom install if I try to use a 64bit ISO. Will my 32bit Vista be formatted before I have a chance to check the validity of the key with the 64bit version?
And if it is formatted, I presume I can use my 32bit upgrade media to perform a custom install of Windows 7. -
I believe the key they sent you is a Key that requires online activation.
I also think that key is tied to SKU License of Windows 7 Home Premium not 32/64bit. -
exeter - This isn't a direct answer to your question - but here goes: I wanted to run 32-bit WIN 7 (smaller install, some apps I have are 32-bit only, latest Flash) on my 1410. So, I swapped the drive and installed 32-bit using one of the two DVD's that came with my WIN 7 Family Pack. Just like others have stated, it would not activate on-line using the key off of the bottom of the laptop. But, after one six-minute toll-free call to M$, it is now activated and runs very well.

So if I try to custom install the 64bit iso, I will lose Vista, but it is likely that the key which came with my 32bit W7 upgrade disk will activate the 64bit iso online.
And if not, Microsoft might provide me with a key that does.
And if not, I should be able to do a custom install with my 32bit W7 upgrade disk.
And if not, can I revert to Vista using my Acer recovery disks?
Anyway, I shall let you know how I get on. -
My Timeline 3810 came with Vista Home Premium 32 bit preinstalled.
In the free Acer update package was a Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit disc, so I downloaded a Win 7 64 bit ISO, and made a totally clean install (wiped out the entire hard drive, deleted the ACER restore partition, made a brand new partiton and installed Win 7 64 bit). Aftre the install I entered the ACER update key (which was on the ACER upgrade Win7 32 bit disc), and activated my freshly installed Win 7 64 bit online without any problem. -
dualview
Thanks very much, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
Now I just have to wait the 8 hours my pedestrian wifi connection will take to download the iso, and buy some blank dvds!
(I've just moved to another country)
I've heard 64bit won't make a tremendous difference, especially as I only have 3GB RAM installed, but I suppose I might as well futureproof.
I can't just add 1GB RAM either - there are only two RAM slots, so I would have to buy a 2GB module and replace the 1GB module already installed. -
Update:
Downloaded the W7HP 64bit iso, and activated it fine with my Acer 32bit upgrade key.
I had completely wiped my hard drive of previous partitions and OS before installing W7.
A freeze occurred soon after W7 had been installed, and before I had installed a couple of the drivers and progs that were on my Acer back up disk.
I've had another freeze, but I'm hoping it is just teething trouble.
I'm working on how to flash BIOS to the latest version off a DVD or flash drive. -
This would be useful for you.

Thanks for all your help weinter.

I've located a previous 4810t BIOS thread:
I have copied FLAS HIT.EXE to my USB, and the bin file, renaming it to JM41X64.fd, and will try now... -
Tried booting off USB drive, then entering date, time, flash it.exe, flash it EFI.fd, but didn't work.
then tried the FN+ESC+power button method, screen went black for a while and lots of noise from hard drive, and hey presto it worked!
If it still crashes now, then I think I'm going to have to ask my vendor to take it back (only bought it three weeks ago) or have them send it to Acer.
Will 32bit W7HP Acer upgrade key activate 64bit W7HP iso?
