A friend has an AS6920-6875 and Vista64. THey have a piece of software that they need ti use but isn't Vista64 compatible. One option is to use a Virtual PC like software and the other possible option is to install Vista 32 bit on this computer. Was wondering if the Acer supplied drivers on their support website are for both versions of Vista?

Snowbound, Acer does indeed supply drivers for both 32- and 64-bit versions of Vista. Get your friend to burn his Drivers & Utilities disc from Acer eRecovery first, and use that first - anything else he needs he can get from the Acer Euro FTP.
Oh, and does your friend have his recovery DVDs ready (just in case something goes wrong)? -
That’s weird, I thought all Acer laptops came with factory installed with Vista 32bit and you need to upgrade to 64bit on your own. But if the laptop came indeed with Vista 32bit and your friend installed 64bit on his own, then you can just use Recovery DVDs or D2D recovery and format your computer to factory settings with Vista 32bit and all the drivers and bloatware. Just remember to backup all your data if you are doing it this way.
Anyway it will definitely work with Vista 32bit and Acer has all the necessary drivers on FTP server -
Mine came with Vista Home Premium x64 and I installed Ultimate SP1 x86.

What software is it that won't work on Vista 64? Just curious as I thought you could run most 32bit software on the 64bit OS.
-
Yes I made darn sure that the recovery DVDs were created when they got the laptop. So the Utilities Disk that is burned will work on both x86 and x64? Only thing is that if they are using MS Works on Vista64 they will not be able to reinstall that on Vista32 correct?
-
They have some poorly designed software for a home business that needs to use a 32 bit Windows installer to install the application if memory serves me correctly.
-
@krusha03: Nope, they're shipping lots of models with 4GB of RAM and 64-bit Vista now.
@snowbound: My Drivers & Utilities disc has the following drivers in both 32- and 64-bit versions:
-Fingerprint reader
-Ethernet card
-Launch Manager (controls CineDash and stuff)
-Bluetooth
-Chipset
-Turbo Memory (if you have it)
-IR Port
-Audio (incl. Tuba)
-Card Reader
-Touchpad
As for the rest, try to get the drivers from the source, i.e. Intel WiFi drivers from intel.com.
Pretty sure it's one image used for D&U discs across all 6920 models, as there's also the Intel GMA drivers here.
And in regards to your last question, not sure about MS Works. -
I know for a fact that Logitech SetPoint does not work with my Logitech MX Revolution mouse with Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x64.
Will Acer AS6920-6875 and Vista32 work?
