Have I completely missed the announcement of a successor to this great format of laptops?
I heard that Acer was going to stop make "cheap" laptops, so does that mean there wont any more of this kind of laptops from Acer?
I was hoping for a successor to the 3830TG that corrected the mistakes(better ventilations and more fans), but it looks like they will go all ultranotebook next year? And the ultranotebooks don't have the beefy gpu.

There's no point in doing anything now. New series of Intel CPUS will be available in April and new GPUs have been announced this month (although these are re-badged ones at this point- new 28nm GPUs will come later).
So there will be something new from Acer sometime in April/May but no sooner than that. -
Ah, that would explain it. Hopefully the timeline series will still find a place in Acers new policy.
When you talk about the new intel cpus are you talking about the ivy bridges then(I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to hardware)? Are they also 28nm?
And is AMD completely out of the game when it comes to notebook cpus?
Off topic, but this ultrabook doesn't look bad.
Samsung unveils 13" and 14" Series 5 Ultrabooks - Core i5, HDD+SSD and AMD HD7550M inside, aluminum outside
But can't find any info on the gpu. Is it a match for 5650 or GT540m? -
I had much the same thought when reading about Acer's consolidation strategy. Acer will probably give more detail on the models that will survive at CES in January.

@Brotherzero
Ivy Bridge is what I meant- it's supposed to be 22nm.
As for HD7750 it's almost certainly re-badged GPU with addition of GDDR5 memory to speed it up. As usually there are issues with new technology (28nm in this case) so all cards AMD launched are in fact old cards with tweaks and GDDR5. -

7500 series will be rebadged GDDR5 cards, 7600 will be a VLIW-4 arch.
AMD are only releasing the complete core redesign to highest end desktop cards which are too power hungry for even the largest laptops (unless you want another 480M). -
Bumping this, if there are any news from CIS.
Looks like they are going for Ultrabooks but not any true 3820 successor since they don't have any dedicated graphics.
I hope downloads is right and that they will announce the true successor later since there isn't much point now. -
There's this, but it's only a 520M.
Will there be a successor to the 3820tg/3830tg?
