So I got an Acer Aspire 3003wlci, but it only has a vga output. I want s-video output. Will a vga->s-video cable add tv-out capability? I found a cable, but it seems the video card must support it. I know the card supports simultanious display on the lcd and external monitor. Does this mean it supports tv-out?
(cant figure out how to insert such a large working link, but the specs can be found at http://us.acer.com it has a sis mirage 2 gpu)
Thanks for any help.
edit: after quite a bit of searching, I found this

Its a laptop with the mirage 2 gpu, and has a s-video out port. Does this mean for sure mine supports tv-out?

Yes - your laptop supports TV-out. If you don't have an S-Video port, then you need to get a VGA > S-video adapter - as you posted. They should be inexpensive, avaliable at Radio Shack, etc. Then, in order to switch to the TV, it's just like switching to an external monitor.

Im glad I found this thread. Im hoping you can help me out also.
I am very close to buying the Acer 3003LMI (Non widescreen). I have found a cable vga -> svideo that will do the job for me. BUT does it also work with this version of the laptop? I think it uses a different graphics card. I really hope it does work.
Thanks in advance ChazMan421, or anyone else

Just found out they widescreen, and non widescreen use the same graphics card/chipset anyhow, the sis M760GX, and on the Sis site it mentions
Integrated MirageĀ 2 Graphic Engine
- Built-in a High Performance 256-bit 3D Engine
- DirectX 8.1 H/W Compliant, DirectX 9.0 S/W Compliant
- Supports Digital Video Interface for TV or LCD Display
I guess this means it will work with the converter cable, correct?Would love it if some one could confirm or deny this!
Many Thanks
Will this converter cable add tv-out to my Acer 3003?
