Hi to all!
I [still] have my Extensa 4420. I ran it with XP for years, switched to Vista when XP would no longer update. Vista was no better so I loaded Win 7.
Everything is great except for the Video.
It will only allow 1024x768 and everyting is stretched. Cannot use Corel Draw because the shapes are distorted.
Acer support had me download the ATI/Catalyst Video Driver Update. It ran and finished but had an ERROR re compatibility, so no driver update and no new choices in the screen resolution.
Their paid support wants $100 with no commitment to fixing it.
Can anyone tell me how I can fix this or if it is NOT FIXABLE?
THis is the link for the update they gave me

Thanks!

ask someone there http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/217975-new-laptop-acer-extensa-4420-5237-a-15.html or check windows updates. I got mine video drivers for not supported old laptop from there

Just a thought but have you tried setting compatibility to different OS's or even running the Troubleshoot Compatibility Problems wizard?

Issue could be between 32 versus 64 bit. I had an issue trying to install Win 7 64 bit on a 9810. I installed 32 bit Win 7 over and all the drivers work fine. There were only drivers for XP and Vista on the Acer 9810 support page. I installed the Vista drivers.

Problem is solved.
It turns out that the WIn 7 install was incomplete with regard to UPDATES!
THere are many updates after initial install and they all may not be downloaded/installed at teh first update. It took requesting UPDATE 3 times before all were installed. AMong them was an ATI Radeon 1200 which solved teh resolution issue.
My old 4420 is still running like new!
Shame on ACER support for not suggesting the WIn7 update issues before trying to bang me for $100 to fix something that was not really broken.
Thanks to all here who jumped in to help. -
Windows update do not check all your Device manager to suggest you updates. You need to install drivers for one type of devices, then to another one. Mine gpu driver was coming with card reader update at the second update series. All manufacturers do not want to have additional headache with support so they just write "new windows not supported" and that is very good that microsoft wants to sell their Windows to everyone to get more money
And we are able to use old lappys with Win 7.
Glad that helped.
