Hey folks. New guy here. I was just curious if its possible to put windows 7 ultimate on this tablet. If not, I imagine the OS installed on it is special in someway. (likely in the multi-touch department?)
Thank you in advance!

It (most likely) can be done without any issues.
Iconia doesn't use any special Windows version although you may be forced to use drivers provided by Acer and set them up properly. -
Well Ultimate doesn't require any hardware different from Home Premium. The big thing about Windows (right now) is that it has to run on an AMD or Intel processor.
-
You should have no problems. It's just Home Premium with some Acer apps installed on top (the ring navigation, orientation, etc.)
An upgrade would be your best bet for the easiest transition.
Do you have one of these tablets? What do you think of it? -
Does they allow to Tweak the OS on the tablet? Google won't let you do it on Android although they did allow people to install Ubuntu, Windows or Apple OS on their Chrome laptops.
-
It's pretty much a netbook with an AMD APU and a touchscreen. You can do whatever you want with it. (Besides upgrade the memory. ;-)
I'd love to play with one. Amazon & B&H reviews are glowing, but tech sites are slamming it.
EDIT: Dammit. It was only $529.99 at J&R and I just pulled the trigger. -
I have to say is very nice. I had an ipad 2 that i just put on ebay. The full windows OS just makes it so nice. It is heavier, construction isnt aluminum, and the interface isnt as sleek, but the functionality of it smokes the ipad ten fold. Im typing this using the included keyboard as well which is a pleasure. To further compare the ipad, the ipad does have much smoother screen rotation, and the pinch zoom functions are much nicer then the iconia. Besides that though, its just if you like iOS or Windows better.
But anyways, Im going to stick with the 32 bit home premium UNLESS... I can get windows 64 bit going. Going to try Ultimate 64 bit when i get home. Im guessing drivers are going to be a problem. Will be sure to report back here with my findings -
Thanks for your impressions, Atlasprime!
That's funny because I just sold my iPad 2 also. After playing with an Asus Transformer I grew addicted to the higher resolution.
I'm going to try out both the Transformer (which I really like so far) and the w500 and see which one works out better for me. -
On second thought, 64 bit windows may be pointless. I have to look into the prospect of replacing the 2gb stick with something bigger before thinking about going 64 bit. Besides memory management for 4+gb of ram, I dont see much reason to mess with it
I wonder if this tablet might be able to handle a more powerful AMD fusion cpu as well... hrm... I thinking im going to try to stick in a E-350 or C-60 chip seeing that they are the same socket. If there is one thing this tablet lacks in comparison to other windows tablets, netbooks or notebooks, its the CPU.
Turns out the c-60 isnt out yet. The E-350 looks to be about 40% faster then the C-50 so that may be the winner. -

With 64GB SD (Class 10, A-RAM brand) card, I have installed and run PC games like GRID, Torchlight and 'etc'.
As for the "Android experience", I can dual boot into Android 2.2 X86 with touch + WiFi via a small USB flash drive or run it within VMWare Workstation (virtual machine). -
Wow, that's pretty cool. Do you have any links to setting up Android on the w500?
Android and Windows 7 would be sweet!
Thanks! -
There's the new Blue Stacks :: Android + Windows
Run Android apps on Windows. Rebooting not required. -
Hi all
Te boot time with acer win 7 was roughly 90 seconds. Also battery time was not good. Installed a fresh win 7, turned off all grafic extras and turned down the birghtness of the display. Boot time is now 30 seconds (with drivers from acer) and battery holds alot longer. Installed 3G usb card and worked fine. Windows is also more snappy and responsive. Next is a GPS reciever via usb. Also maybe installing xp for more speed and battery time.
Has anyone tried XP yet?

Had the W500 and returned it. It reminded me too much of an underpowered netbook.

2. update to Adobe Flash 10.3
3. update AMD Radeon HD drivers to Cat 10.5.
4. installed Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 and H.264 pack (GPU video acceleration) on top of K-Lite Codec Pack. -
It's not Intel Core i7 ULV (17 watts) tablets.
On the graphics side, AMD C-50/Z-01 APU should beat your Acer 1810T e.g.
1. playable Crysis 2 on AMD C-50(ACER AO522 netbook) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybiaYzPPluQ
2. Blue Ray 1080p/720p VC-1/H.264 playback
3. MS IE fish tank test http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/performance/fishietank/?o=1
Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo(1.3Ghz)'s Mobile Intel GS45(GMA 4500 MHD) Express Chipset is a joke.
