I've got an acer 3810tz running vista 64 and I got my windows 7 64 upgrade in the mail yesterday. I've tried to upgrade a number of times, and every time the computer eventually gets stuck in boot loop. The initial install will end up at a functioning desktop. But, the next boot will start chkdsk and a startup repair that eventually ends in an endless booting loop. Trying to boot in safe mode doesn't help.
Before upgrading I had uninstalled all virus software and had shut down all non-vital services so vista was booting quickly and without any junk. Each time I've attempted a clean install on the main partition. I'm able to reset to factory Vista which then runs great and boots fine, so I'm stumped.
Any help is appreciated.

You can either get an OEM DVD disk and use that to do a CLEAN Windows 7 install and then use Acer Upgrade Kit key to install/activate. OR, there is an alternative method, which I think is a lot easier.
I also highly suggest upgrading the BIOS to the latest version before doing any of the above.

Thanks for this, I hadn't seen any of these. The implication is that there may be something flawed with the upgrade version they supplied? What a nightmare.
I don't know who's fault this is, but regardless, my experience owning a Timeline has been a huge disappointment. First 100% cpu problems, now this- far too many hours wasted just to get a functioning laptop.
