    Hey

Microsoft hve got a hot fix that improves performance on dual core laptops/desktops as without it there is a performance slow down. Does anyone know how to check to see if Acer has allready instaled the hot fix on my 5652 or not?

    Thanks

Wouldn't this hotfix automatically be added to the next download from Windows Update?

ok thanks for that. I installed it and it says its installed but my laptop still seems slow. sumtimes it even slows down so much that nothin happens for a few secs and if a press a key it beeps. Im normally only running opera, a p2p proggy and winamp so it shoudnt slow down a aspre 5652 down that much esp wiv the specs on this laptop. Does anyone else have this problem?

Just about all P2P programs install some form of spyware or Adware. Basicly check your computer for any malware.

there is no spyware/malware. I have adaware installed so it auto deletes malware and spyware.

Nope I have got Mcafee VS and I scanned my laptop and it fond nothing. Could it be because its only a 1.66ghz core duo cpu?

LOL. Use some REAL antivirus software (Panda, AVG, Avast) and doublecheck with online scanners. Scanning with Ad-aware only is not enough - use more antispyware tools.

Firstly, the machine is not slow because of it's entry level dual core processor.I have the same processor in my 5672, and it runs very quickly indeed.
I uninstalled all the Acer software, Acer Arcade, and the Empowering stuff.
Get Avast anti-virus, as jaad75 stated, and also run Spybot as it seems to find more stuff than other free programs.
If it still runs slow, you might want to consider a clean install to isolate any software issues. After installing loads of **** to test, my machine took over two minutes to boot, and the blue trailing indicator under the Windows XP travelled 7 times before the machine booted. Now after a clean install it takes half the time to boot and is noticeably faster.

    Ok
Is Mcafee anti-virus not good then?
I would have thought it would be good as its not free?
Also is there an alternate to acer epower asits the only acer software I use?

I didn't realise that you had the full retail McAfee Av - if so, then that is fine.

As for power management, Windows does it remarkably well on it's own! Setting the power in the control panel>power management from Always On, or Max Battery etc sets the processor throttling accordingly. Also, some people like the ePower because you can turn off the LAN and Cardbus etc independently, but perhaps don't realise that Windows will turn these off anyway on battery power, if nohing is connected to them, so it is just as efficient.
So the less software the better IMO, and I found the ePower software a bit flaky. Purely my opinion, of course.
