Has anyone tried to install winxp on 5920. Any problems with the drivers beyond the SATA on boot - video/audio?

Cool, thanks. I ordered my acer yesterday, hopefully will get it on monday and test everything.

BTW, can you remember when creating the slipstreamed xp - it gives 10-15 drivers to chose from (some raid, some ach, some desktop, some mobile), which drivers did you pick and should it be text mode or PNP?

    Thanks again

    Hi guys :)

I have downloaded all the xp drivers for my 5920G from Acer's FTP site. GOt some minor problems. Which drivers are for which hardwares?
    Which one is for the
    SATA HDD
    Touch Pad
    Programmable Keys
    Touch sensetive Keys
    Web Cam
    USB
I have read one post in this thread saying that I should not use the webcam drivers since its going to make problems (shutdown problems I think). If I will not use the webcam driver, does this mean I cant use my webcam in XP (it bad since I will be needing it for teleconferencing). Is there another driver for the webcam in XP?

    Thanks guys :)

Is it possible to install xp via ide mode (in bios) then once installed, update the driver to a sata one or would this not work ?

If i had to be stuck in ide mode, what would be the drawbacks ?

    Synaptics: Touchpad
    Programmable/Touch sensitive keys: Launch Manager
Web Cam: Orbicam Software (Be warned. Installing this causes shutdown/hibernation issues with Windows XP)
    USB: Chipset

    Thank you Incuris,

I was wondring if theres is a way we can set or confiugre the webcam driver so that it will work in xp without causing any shutdown problem. If we cant use the webcam driver, is there any other driver closest to this one but does not cause any problems? I wanted to use the webcam in xp :(

THank you very much for your advices :)

i have xp pro on my aspire 7110 with the low res oribicam which uses the bison bar drivers and software.
when i saw that in MSCONFIG startup tab.the software was checked to run a startup.and i to had some problems, but unchecking the startup box solved all the problems you are having.
now i can use my orbicam in what ever i want. MSN,movie maker and video conferencing.
if its running at startup and you go to use it you get an error message.i haven't seen that error message for ages and cam works better than i expected :)

    Aspire Acer 5920G

I managed to install XP on my 5920G preinstalled with VISTA successfully. I downloaded all the xp drivers from www.acersupport.com.au . The system essessentiallyworks very well and smoothly except for the following hiccups:

When I check under Device Manager I noticed 3 devices under other devices wich exclaimation marks

The 3 are Base System Device
When I select the individual property under each of the highlighted Base System Device it shows
    1 .PCI bus 10, device 9, function 3
    2 PCI bus 10, device 9, function 2
    3 PCI bus 10, device 9, function 4

All the function and short keys work except the following:
F5= I could not connect to an external projector.
I also noticed that the infra red does not work (although there is no exclaimation mark on the device driver). Finally I also notice the short cut CD buttons with blue lights do not work.

Has anyone loaded XP before? If you have can you advise on what is wrong and how can I resolve the problem?

Titus, to get your TV out to work, you don't use Fn+F5, you run nvidia display properties and run the wizard to enable the 2nd display. You should have the TV on and connected before you boot.

I have the 3 PCI device drivers not right too.

Hey, I took a look at the link you provided but the post was deleted.
My system is the aspire 5920-6313, i changed the hard drive to a 7200rpm one and was successful in installing XP by embedding the windows vista sata drivers from http://us.acer.com with Nlite.
I also was sucessful in installing all the drivers (video, card reader, wlan, network card, video camera), however I cannot get sound.
I have tried all the links i have found and even gave it a try with vista drvers. It installs the drivers but when i go to Control Panel>Sound... it says there is no device.
I have also tried a fix that i found on google that had an embedded Microsoft UAA Driver to no avail.

Does anyone have a solution for this?
By the way its a CLEAN install of XP, vista is on another hard drive all together.

good move using a new HDD....

the easy way to make sound work when downgrading to XP is to install the soundcard drivers first (before chipset or anything....)

i've seen a post on here somewhere dealing with your exact issue,, i'll try to locate it and post back...

OK Bigozone you are teh uber leetness lol
I have sound on my laptop and all is well.

Anyway, here are a few things I feel I was doing wrong....
    1. I was installing WIndows SP3 (dont know if this was one of the MAIN reasons, so to make sure, I used SP2 Instead)
    2. I wasn't transferring the drivers from a cd, i was using a USB Hard Drive which would install drivers when i would plug it in, making the sound drivers NOT the FIRST thing that installed.

Other than that, like i've been reading on a few forums, DON'T PANIC IF YOU DON'T GET SOUND IMMEDIATELY!!
There is something about the OS taking a while for it to actually recognize the sound card. (maybe 3 minutes at most)

Oh and one last note, if you don't really need the modem (which i don't) by all means just disable it since it uses the same UAA drivers as the sound card, it might conflict, i CANNOT confirm this, so I did it just as a safety precaution.

Thanks again for the help. lets keep this alive for others to read!

purchased Acer 5920 today and installing windows xp with SP2 on it.

Everything is fine with it while installing, except on thing.

When i am installing suyin webcam drivers on it, it installs it but when i install suyin application i.e. Acer Crystal Eye Webcam application, it creates problem with the fuctionality of windows.

After installing that application, my machine is getting struck at the screen "shutting down your computer" and nothing happens. I need to turn my machine off manually.

But when i removed that application "acer crystal eye" laptop was okay again.

Tried this several times after re-installing windows but problem is same every time.

Please reply me back with any clue in installing that application.
