    Windows update does not work on new Ferrari

    I bought a brand new Ferrari 1005 WTMn with Vista Ultimate - the first action after successful OS installation was an attempt to install some new Windows updates...

    Reported error is 800706BE in Trustedinstaller.exe and the error message says "Windows Modules Installer has stopped working". Microsoft support isn't able to help, Acer support sent Nvidia LAN driver (hardware which is not used in Ferrari) probably just to do some action...

    It seems Acer created some faulty Vista build. Even driver update does not work as I investigated (error appears several times when searching internet for new driver). To install Nokia PC Suite is impossible as well. "Windows Modules Installer has stopped working" message appears in all above cases.

    Anybody has some idea what to do? Which part of Vista is the bad one? :(

    I think it's Vista causing a lot of these problems, not Acer or Acer programs, or Acer hardware...I have some problems, too.

    All I can do is hope that Vista SP1 comes out and fixes a lots of these stupid OS-caused problems.

    Remember, even the much praised (and erroneously I should add) Windows XP had to have TWO (!!) Service Packs before it got fairly stable...I suspect Vista will follow the same path.

    Despite my problems with Vista, I do NOT want to downgrade my laptop to XP.

    Yes, I hope the SP1 could help but I am not sure if it will be possible to install... Of course I remember XP times and I also believe the Vista will remain in this notebook "forever". I am recovering the original configuration for further investigations just now.

    Check you date and time on noteobook : > i bet you off and that will messed up windows updates

    Thanks. It was the first advice from MSFT but it did not help. Date and time is correct because it is set every time the notebook boots.

    The notebook OS is just restored from hidden partition and waits for automatic update check now. The new Windows update log already contains 800706BE bug since the restore time but I still believe...

    I'll try to install Nokia PC Suite later again.
